Hi every one..
My contract is up for renewal just now.Im swithering on getting the nokia n96...It looks flash, has 5mega pixel camera etc etc...Just now i have a n95. Which i think is a good fone. My only problem with it is the battery life is very, very poor.
I use my fone to text and call all day more or less.So the battery life in the n96 concerns me.
Many a late weekend i find myself out partying and have no fone as the battery has died.
I also like to browse the web about the house on my fone, just when im sitting in the living room and my wife is on the lap top etc.
So what fone should i go for? the n86 or the n96..I dont need the fone for my work,i use my fone to take pictures very often, but both have the same camera,so what should i go for...as my knowledge on the spec etc of fones i very limited,so i appreciate those in the know giving me some words of wisdom
Grazie:icon14:
Of those two, I would go with the N85.

care to expand?
currently looking at the n96 myself! (also trying to find pics to compare the black and quartz versions but that's another matter!)
N85: smaller in size, faster processor, USB charging, nicer display (even if smaller), no use for the DVB-H in the N96, memory card enough for storage (no need for the internal 16MB + memory card in the N96)
as no one has yet used a production N85 its very hard to say
N85 is based on legacy chip set - which has higher power usage
so i has a larger battery, but smaller form - that platform has been revised and revised.
N96 is based on a new lower power chip set so managed as well with a smaller battery.
but really until people have production models its hard to say.
but yes the N85 is basically a smaller version of the same thing.
usb charging is great in some aspects
but as i have about 6 nokia chargers all over the place - and in other peoples houses
it means going back to having to carry a charger / cable around all the time
plus one charger for handset, one for bluetooth etc.
its a transitiion period.
both phones offer differnt things
and both will be free on certain contracts
The N85 also uses a OLED screen which vastly reduces power usage. It will long outlast the N96.
I think its fair to compare the N85 / N96 to the N95 classic and 8gb variants
ones a bit smaller - both continue to sell.
i think the N85 will be a more popular phone over all - but because of the size
nothing to do with usb charging / oled screen or battery size.
and its cheaper.
Some excellent advice and information...Thanks very much...
Keep it coming those who want there say please:icon14:

Lol i plan on getting an n85 exactly because of the usb charging, screen and battery size!!
dammit, until I started reading this and another similar thread, I'd made my mind up. Now I'm torn again. Will the N85 ONLY charge via USB? Like macwhu I have chargers all oer the place. Would drive me mad if I had to change them all!
There is no way in the world the fone would only be able to charge via usb...That would mean if you dont have a PC you couldnt buy the fone.

Way!
It will come with a USB charger (ie a normal phone charger that you plug into the wall, except with a micro-usb plug on the end)

Well it's the standard that was decided on by some of the main phone manufacturers so we'd better all get used to it.
Thank goodness they've finally agreed on a standard, that's what I say.
At a fiver or less for a cable it's no big deal to buy one for the office/car/bedroom etc.
And as Pennas has already said it will come with a mains charger with a micro usb connector, so it doesn't need a usb port from a computer.
I was in a 3 shop today and the lad i spoke to seemed to think o2 wont do the n85 or n96 because its to much of a rival for the i-phone and all in entails with downloading music etc
well i've gone for the N96 been wanting it for ages... Its much like my orignal N95.. BUT they have in my opion improved it loads.. Software...Design.. EG 3.5 socket is better placed.. Cleaner look.. No more fiddley messaging its now in 1, so mms and txt use same editor.. Pictures are clearer from n96.. i found the N96 quicker...
Handset is however only slightly bigger than the n95 but don't bother me in the slightest..
The only thing stopping me from getting this nokia n96 today is the battery power is so bad...I cant go another year with a fone thats only last 1 day.:frown:

who says the battery is bad?
I've not seen a single person moaning about the N96 battery - it out performs the N95.
And i suspect is equal to the N85 - which has a bigger battery - but a more power hungry chipset?
I have been basing the n96 battery on the n95 which inmo is brutal...
How long is your battery lasting with heavy usage mate?
