You can't help thinking that some people are going to be disappointed by the Nokia N96. First they hear it's got built-in digital TV. "Oh, no, that's not available in most countries yet". Then they latch onto the prominent marketing blurb about it 'coming with BBC iPlayer'. "Oh, no, that doesn't work with 'normal' data, you have to use 'Wi-Fi'. And so on. If I may say so, a bit of a product pitching mess all round...

Well the retailers need to try something to stop everyone waiting for the N85 or going out to by the i8510 😊
it seems that n96 have bad luck written all over it?
Perhaps not the best for Nokias flagship phone.
If iplayer only supports wifi today doesn't mean it'll only support wifi forever.
Moreover, it seems even Nokia has realized that N96 is nothing but a latecomer that has already passed its prime so they aren't really pushing it like N95.
anyway enough about n96, it appears that bbc iplayer app have been updated to version 1.5
new features include:
tv download (stored in the gallery and expire after 7 days)
radio streaming
streaming over some 3G networks.
I agree with comments here - I think unfortunately that the complete lack of TV makes the N96 in the UK absolutely pointless. It's not a totally up to date phone software-wise and for most N95 8GB owners offers very little in terms of an upgrade. What does excite me is the new touchscreen Nokia phone - if they bring out an 'N' series using this technology with some cutting edge features and the music bundle then things could get interesting again.
The N96 does seem like it should have come out at the beginning of the year rather than now. Not only does it have to face up to the cheaper-but-equally-good N85, it also has to deal with the unpredictable wild card of the 5800 XpressMusic.
The 5800 doesn't have the 5mp camera of the N96, but the 5800's much larger screen, touch-based interface and brand new OS version could overwhelm hardware spec considerations. The 5800 also costs literally half the price of the N96, which is going to make the N96 a purchase that's much more difficult to justify.
