Mobile magazine is reporting that Sony Ericsson intends to close its flagship London store, quoting 'market conditions don't make it appropriate'. A shame, but you may remember my sorry experience there a while ago. It's not really surprising that the store failed to make a profit, in all honesty.

Lianne Norry, VP for retail marketing at Sony Ericsson, said: ‘The market conditions in western Europe don’t make it appropriate for us to open stores here.’ She added that the dominance of big multiple chains and operator stores in the UK market contributed to make it difficult for Sony Ericsson’s direct retail ambitions in the UK.
A retail store for phones loses its relevance when the only place people buy their phones from, is the network.
Oh well, so they're gonna advertise their Java crap in our country now. As if it matters.

Why do SE need a standalone store in London? They can still showcase their handsets in all the Sony stores together with other sony's products.
Apparently Sony isn't too happy about its relationship with SE. SE isn't part of Sony but a joint venture co-owned by Ericsson, and there were some rumours Sony wanted to go back to making phones itself.
