I know that there is a program to do this, but when tried it on my phone it failed to work as just got the error message, phone does not support this, so I started looking at the differences between a phone that did support it and on the didnt.
I have now found a way that seems to work with nearly all phones I have tested it on, the process is a bit long winded but maybe can get it quicker once other people try it and let me know if it works or not.
Here are the following steps to add all 6 colours to the 7650
1) Install the PC suite that comes with the 7650, or download the latest version from Nokias web site.
2) Once installed make a backup of your phone using the software
3) You will find a file called filestore.dat.txt in the directory where you have backed up the files to, this by default is c:\nokia\nokia 7650\backup
4) Once you have found this file you can open it with notepad
5) When opened you need to look for the following line C:\system\Shareddata\100058ec.ini there will be a number at the beginning of the line, ie 110
6) Make a note of this number, now go to the directory where the dat files are, you will see they are numbered in the same way at the list in the text file
7) Now find the number you have made a note of, ie 110.dat
8) Open the file using notepad and add the following to the last entry in the file, ColPals=0 1 2 3 4 5
9) Once this is done save the file with the original name, ie 110.dat
10) When this is all done restore the phone from back up
11) Restart the phone, then check top see if you can change the colours on you phone from the normal 3 to now 6
If you get any problems please drop me a mail to [email protected] also if you could let me know that it works and what software versions you are using

That instruction presumed you have the NEW v1.1 PC Suite.
It makes shitty backups 😃
If you have old 1.0 PC Suite, you can find the file just going to:
C:\Nokia\--orwhereeveryoumadeyourbackupfolder--\backup\Internal\system\Shareddata\100058ec.ini
And ofcourse you can screw up your phone by doing that! 😃
Be carefull, and near your NSC, and willing to spend time without your phone while its being repaired.
you wont screw up your phone by doing it, cos you have just made a back up of the phone, if you do get a problem after your do the restore the phone with the edited file, then change the file back and do another restore and the phone will be back as it was before, so there is no risk, i tried changing several values in the file to see what they where for some caused problem so just changed them back, and all ok.....
LeftIdle=0 --??
RightIdle=2 --??
these for for the softkeys, when on the idle screen
3= new message
7= wap services
will have to find out the rest
what are your idle keys set to???
my phone was 4.39, and didnt have the colpal line in the file either, so added it then can chose from the 6 colours not just the 3
AutoRedial=0
SumAftCall=0
OneKeyDial=0
AnyKeyAns=0
McnDisplay=0
WNoteType=0
WNoteText=
WNoteImg=
BGImg=1
BGImgPath=c:\system\data\backgroundimage.mbm
LeftIdle=3
RightIdle=7
ColPal=3
ScrSvrObj=1
ScrSvrText=
ScrSvrPrd=5
AutoLock=0
LockTime=0
ConfirmSat=0
HsProfile=0
LsProfile=0
LoopSet=0
HsAutoAns=0
LsAutoAns=0
InputLang=1
DispLang=0
PredTxt=1
InputMode=0
Tolerance=0
NrGrouping=0
ColPals=0 1 2 3 4 5
McnDisplay=0 "no idea what this is for"
WNoteType=0
WNoteText=
WNoteImg=
these seem to be for welcome screen settings
LeftIdle=0 --Phonebook
RightIdle=2 --Messages
so anyone tried the colpal line in there file yet???
there must be people out there that wanna change the colour
Yeah, just tried it, and it doesnt work on 3.16, didnt even show in phone settings
But most likely it works that way. Just have to find the file that contains the palettes 😊
I am also trying with 3.16 now (restore in progress), I expect the same result as JyriK.
I'll let you know
Bob :fadein:
Still login problems
No go on 3.16 just as I susspected, no ill effects to the phone though, al still working fine.
I guess all pre 4.x users will need to have the firmware upgrade to get this to work.
Bob
😞
whoever tried and it worked , just paste the file here cuz i cant figure my way with this file.
why cant we edit it directly from the file on the phone. change it from there and then restart the phone ?

What I did almost like yours. I restored the hold thing back to my 7650, not just one file.
anyone heard 4.45 f/w, anyone know this latest f/w? 😊
7650 FW 3.16
100058ec.ini did not have colpals line at all, just had colpal=0 for current selection of blue.
Added colpals line at the bottom of the ini.
Please note, these files all appear to a form of unicode, so editing with notepad could insert a couple of chr 255's at the top. I removed these with Ultraedit.
Restored files, restarted phone.
No change...
Pity...
I also had a dig about to see if I could find the alarm clocks ring sound so I could change it for something louder than a mouse f*rting, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it's going to be that easy...
Oh well, thanks for the pointers, I can see I'm going to have lots of fun playing with these files.
I did a back up of my phone and didnt have any shareddata folders at all.
any ideas ???
oh Sh*t, i edited my .dat file with notepad and copied it back to the phone, now i reboot the phone and i have no right soft key and no wallpaper lol, and it wont let me restore!!!!!!! can somebody post there 100058ec.ini file so i can replace my now pooped one lol
doesnt matter, i had all my backup files zipped up somewhere, extracted the .dat were talking about and renamed it to 100058ec.ini then sent it back to the C:\system\sharedata
PHEW!!
Hi all,
Any one knows if it is possible to read and modify the ini files in the c:\system\shareddata folder programatically using C++?
Hello all, I installed a funny registry fill onto my phone, 7650...it's called Cpp or Cp or something like that...it deleted all my language files, and sometimes the numbers get all funny, I have no access to the (ABC) key so do you guys know what I can do to get it back to it's orginal state, i think i have one of the earliest version of the phone, but i'm not to sure what version it is...
well thanks in advance to who ever is out there with the useful info that can help me and is going to...
