Currently on HH8 and although its generally very good there are of course a few bugs.
Is there any way to update firmware (8GB model) to HH9? Can they do it at Samsung service centers? Will I lose data like on N95?

You're on a newer version than I am. My 8gb 8510 is runnung HH7.
Most people have either HH6 (16GB phones) or HH7 (8GB phones). HH8 and HH9 are obviously newer, but so far, they're not available for user installation.
We'll be asking Samsung in a couple of weeks at the Smartphone Show about this exact issue - we all want OTA frimware updates to be made available.
Mine says Software verion I8510XXHH7 but Custom Version is HH8?
So am I on HH7 or HH8?
OTA isnt essential to me. To be honest I dont really mind downloading 120MB files like I had to with N95. Aslong as I can do it at home, for free (hopefully without losing data!)

That's the version we're calling HH7
