The N96 gets the Gadget Show treatment

The UK's Gadget Show remains a respected review source, even if they don't go into quite the tech detail that AAS does... in the latest Web TV episode, Jon Bentley goes into reasonable detail on the Nokia N96, covering the improvements over the N95 while also being disappointed by the slow speed overall, by the poor Wi-Fi reception and by the lack-lustre BBC iPlayer.

Hi Steve

First.
Please fix the number of megapixels of the N79 in the 3lib.uk site

Second.
What do you think of the UI of S60v5 ? It is just an evolution of the standard Symbian platform ?
Do you think that this is just the first release and with the first feature pack (and more experience) will fix those little missings ? Do you think is handy ?

Sincerly i was impressed from the Touch HD UI interface and think that nokia should learn a lot from HTC.

N79? Pixels? Err...

I disagree with regard to HTC's Touch FLO 3D - it's an abomination. It wouldn't be if it did everything and the user stayed within it. But the way you still have to drop back to standard Windows Mobile for an awful lot of power user functions and the two different apps for several major things is just HORRIBLY inelegant.

i dont know how well the touch HD works
but the HTC diamond touch flo 3D is a total dog
very unresposive, slow and painful beyond belief

a case of all bling and no zing.

you'll notice the iPhones interface has no 'special effects'
no spining flying menus etc.

it just works well instead

Was going to look at this as a contender when my contracts up in november...not now, probably going to go for the Sony C905

If I didn't saw wrong in the 3lib site you have given the N79 three mp instead of 5 megapixels.

Anyway the most important thing is that i wanted to know your point of view of the new born S60v5 platform ?

I haven't played with S60 5th edition yet - more on this in the coming months. It's really only S60 3rd Edition with bells and whistles on though.....

I think the Gadget show review was a bit unfare, the speed issues they were talking about have nothing to do with the processor speed but more to do with early firmware, my N96 navigates menus etc as fast as my E90 and image handling is very impressive. But there is clearly an issue with Wifi connection, I don't know why but it takes forever whereas my E90 is almost instant.
