I have seen various posts on this forum about how bad the n96 is. Well I have had this phone for 10 days now and it has not crashed once, it hooks up to satalites much quicker than the N95, Takes great photos and Video, Music player is good (although could be a little louder) it looks better than the N95 and has a whopping great 16GB of memory + soon be able to add another 16GB (now I dont need to buy an IPod). Not to mention that is also has WI-FI and DVB-H. What more do you want from a phone? And most service providers will give this to you free on contract.
N96 Great Phone
FM transmitter?
OLED screen?
Bigger battery?
😉
Ok an FM transmitter would be nice but not really essential and they have crammed so much stuff into it already. You can keep on cramming stuff into a phone but then you would be carrying a brick. Plus you can just plug it into most amps etc with the cable with not to much hassle.
I have not had a chance to see an oled as of yet but I find the screen with its 16+ million colors more than adequate for watching a movie on the train. the screen is very sharp and look great, just look at the 5 min movie they put on the phone that shows you various locations around the world, it looks amazing.
As for the larger battery well we are looking at size again I can give you a battery that will last for 5 months just you will have to carry it separately in a suitcase. And if you charge every time you sleep you will be fine.
I agree, but the N85 manages to cram all that into a smaller form factor, only omitting the onboard memory and DVB (pointless for most people since it works in very few countries).
Still, its good to know that there are people happy with their N96's. Nice to see some positive comments about it. Glad to see your pleased with it.
Hi there,
I definitely agree with those positive comments on the N96 as I got my prebooked unit on 18 Sep 2008. I've been quite happy with it too. Apart from a few small niggles (which almost every mobile phone model has) it's a great phone. For me, I upgraded from my one year old N73 Music Edition and I absolutely love the N96.
I understand too that it may not be as attractive to an N95 or N95 8GB user.
But, I think this phone is aimed more at attracting non-N95 users, which it definitely does. Compared to my N73, almost everything is a big improvement on the N96, starting with the screen (16 million colour 2.8 inch screen compared to the 256k colour 2.4 inch screen on the N73).
I in fact tried dragging and dropping a DivX AVI video of an episode of the new Knight Rider series (which has just finished 2 episodes in the USA) from my computer's hard drive onto the Nokia PC Suite, and it automatically converted the video to MP4 format in high quality, even preserving the original 16:9 aspect ratio. The video looks great and sound was quite good too. I watched almost half the episode for about 22 mins just to have a feel of watching a programme on this phone. It was a nice experience, especially with my Philips Hi-Fi stereo headphones on (model HP 895 I think). Superb bass in the action scenes.
Overall I am happy too with the N96. Just wondering whether the firmware upgrade is worth it.
Warm regards,
Venkat😊
there is lots to like about the N96
i think the reason many people are having a downer on it is because
theres two almost identical products being release in the same month
one is essentially smaller and using some new tech.
but theres pros to both.
and cons
i have suffered from lots of crashes - 4 or 5 a day. which is unacceptable
i also found photos to be quite wishy washy
though it may just be the cover picks up finger prints so you have to remember
to clean it b4 each photo...

the n96 is rubbish. Battery life is worse than my 95 8gb and it crashes to the extent of having to remove my battery more than once a day. If this is progress, I'll keep the N95! Im not impressed.
N96 is really superb.

How do you find the battery on it?
Yeah I love mine as well it's great! I came from N95 8GB, my wife wanted it from me .Was a bit worried about so called experts on this forum and the scare stories. Well I was not going to down size the screen to N85 coming from N95 8GB. I also wanted more memory. I travel to and from Bangkok for 2 hours every day and watching films is a treat. As for experts saying it's slow, rubbish. it's quicker than my 8 GB was. The battery works well for normal use it does me fine, but I've always carried spare batteries for these devices anyway. I don't put in my trousers with my keys and lose change and guess what, no scratched screen! I dont need USB charging or FM transmitter. The camera takes great pictures, fantastic video - the camera lens issue is easily solved, just cut a piece of screen saver to size to fit. Would never go back to the N95 8GB now - am I the only person in the world who doesn't like touch screen phones? Overall I'm just glad I didn't listen to all the so called experts and am enjoying being an N96 owner.
There are people having problems with their N96 being slow, and they are not self proclaimed 'experts'.
Yours might well be working fine, but there are a lot of people's that are not.
I'm glad you're happy with the n96 but the n85 may be even better. 😉
Just a thought...
