Can 4GB and 8GB microSD cards be used in N95

I want to buy 4GB or 8GB microSD card for my Nokia N95. Can anybody confirm which of them can be used successfully without disturbing N95 performance. Did anybody use any of these cards for video making on N95.
Please suggest what to buy.

I have the N95-1 on the o2 network using version 21.0.016 & up to 8GB card is working fine BUT don't get drawn into the 16GB as yet to my phone will NOT support this as it will only show 605MB!

All I can do is try to debrand the phone & do a firmware update to V30 & see if it can read a 16GB card!

The 4 & 8GB card work very well!

Can't see what difference the latest firmware should make but it does work with my N95-1 firmware v.3

n95-1 uk bought from o2 with their v21 on it

debranded to v30 nokia generic

16gb works fine

i had a few troubles with it but i may have had a badly formatted card , i recomend putting it in the phone and formatting it in the n95 as after alot of formats of phone and memory card oh and swearing my 16gb card works perfect and it has 14.8 gbs on it at mo , 7 days of music , 3 full length films , loads of 3g funny clips and funny pics , garmin with euro maps , nokia maps 2 with uk maps ,

it works ace , gallery takes around 7-12 seconds to open after a reboot then its much faster after it has cached the files ,

music player took around 7-12 mins to do its 1st refresh but thats just due to the amount of memory it had to scan and the amount of files there was ,

if you love memory id grab a 16gb mate or 8gb are now under 20 pounds at the right places watch out for fakes though

buxz777: How many times did you format your card before getting it to work?

What was the problem originally?

i had 8gb card in mine for very long time. no problems. im now on v30 firmware with a 16gb card in.
only problem is that i wasted money with 16gb card cos i havent even filled half of it yet !

hey awesome , soz for the late reply , the original problem was major major slow down for example i dozed off for four hours while the gallerywas loading when i woke my battery was nearly flat and it was still loading ,garmin wouldnt load it would just freeze as would nokia maps 2 , camera would either not start or would crash and music player was terribly slow , i noticed these problems started after 10gb of files were put on the memory card ,

i done several formats of the phone and tryed the card with many different sizes of data loaded onto it each time when i hit 10-12 gb it would cause this slow down and major crashing

i nearly gave up

while i was out i formated the phone with the 3 finger method , when it loaded up i used the star hash 7370 hash four times in a row , when it was loaded up i formatted the memory card in the n95 about three times in a row

when i got home i put card in pc and loaded 13gb of music onto it i then opened up music player and it started to refresh , i honestly thought oh god here we go again so i put the phone on the side and started surfing the web about 10-15 mins later i heard my phone beep and say something like 1200 tracks found i opened music player and thought it would take a year but all tracks was displayed in an instant

i then tested the gallery and it took 7-12 seconds to open i closed it and opened it and where it had cached the files it took about 4-5 seconds to open

i loaded garmin onto it and that worked

i now have 14.8gb loaded onto it (you only get 15gb after the card has its section out of it) and it runs like it did when it had an 8gb or 4gb in it

id recomend it

maybe i was just unlucky on my card , i tryed it in my friends n95-1 same thing , but afeter all them formats which i wouldnt recomend unless you have no choice it worked brill and still is 😊

my phone allways read the card as 15gb mate , if you one isnt even reading the card as 15gb id send it back , i think i might have had a badly formatted card it does happend but your one sounds a bit more serious as the phone is only reading it as much smaller 😊

Hi buxz777, thanks for the detailed reply! I am having major issues with the 16GB card!! I'm just about at my wits end as My N95-1 is seeing the card as 15GB but it is not finding anything in gallery?! I have about 5.8GB of videos in their but using different Card readers it make no odds!

Went & stupidly ordered another 16GB to find same issue!! Had V21 firmware on o2 & as I am only 1 month from end of contract I debranded phone & installed V30. Phone working well with new firmware but STILL same issue with 16GB card! The whole lot has been on the verge of going out the window!! Have formatted about five times through phone even a couple of times via the PC to try anything but still no images or videos? 8GB card had no issues transfering so other than giving up on it & looking at N96 I don't know?

Having looked at N96 forums things are not very good over there so not sure whether to wait & keep trying with this pair of 16GB's.??

where did you get the cards from mate??

your running the same firmware as me so you should be ok , have you tryed any other files but movies?? what movies are they you are putting on there divix , avi , mp4 , because if they are avi or divix i dont think they will show up in the gallery

are they showing up in file manager??

if they are what happends when you click them mate??

try loading on say 5 gb of music and a load of pics , what happends then??

personally id format the phone , whne this is done , id format the card via the phone , id then reboot phone , take a pic and save pic to memory card , open the gallery is the pic there?? thren id record a sound via the recorder app , just so the phone is using the memory card , then maybe a video via the video recorder , id then use file manage rto see if i could find the files and if it ws displaying them properley

if it was id then load up a load of pictures and see if they were in the gallery i would carry on like this mate , where are you saving your videos too by the way?? they may be in the video centre and not the gallery depending on where you saved them too mate

i allways make a folder called

APPS-MP3-VIDS- i then make sub folders in here and keep my music and videos in the sub folders in this folder i dont use any of the folders that the phone creates this way i know where evrything is i put on the phone and it keeps it seperate from the phone data 😊

let me know how you got on because it seems unlikely you should get 2 faulty 16gb cards

i think we can solve this mate

PS
iam pretty sure if you put videos in the video folder on the memory card they dont appear in the gallery but appear in the video centre folder which is in the menu somewhere but i dont use this because i make my own folder and keep them in there try that mate you may find that your vids are in there all along wich would be a pain after all the formats but at least you would know that they did make it onto the device 😉
