Hello people, i have had my N73 for about 3 months now and its on T-Mobile but i want to get it sim free and when i take it too the shop the guys in any shop are like ahh this is really hard phone to unlock its ganna cost 20 and i no there BullSh**n coz i could do it myself but havent got the tools and dont want to take the risk...but i have read some forums and people say that you can get the code from the network...Could someone tell me wich number to ring? or any other info on this, thanks.

Hello - i went through this myself, i emailed T-Mobile and asked if they would give me the unlock code, i didnt mention money at all.
I got my unlock code, free of charge from T-Mobile, but waited nearly 2 months to get it.
I used this email address to contact T-Mobile:

Good luck, its a long wait, but it should be free, mine was!!

My phone was locked to 3Mobile and their terms and conditions are pretty restrictive. They talk about having to pay the difference between what you paid for the phone and its full retail price, PLUS an unlocking fee (which they conveniently don't publish anywhere). It doesn't mention anything about the length of time you have had the phone or the contract. My other half thought he had heard a figure of 40 mentioned for the unlocking fee.

I got mine unlocked by a stallholder who sells phone covers and accessories in Lakeside Retail Park and he charged me 15.

Now I want to get the phone unbranded because 3 cripple the software so you cannot switch away from 3G and I often go into areas with no 3G signal, which makes the phone useless there. 😡

I believe there is a Windows download you can get to do this, but I use Linux. Does anyone know of a Linux equivalent?

Colleague had the same issue on 3 - their pricing was stupid, basically saying that he was to buy himself out of his contract, but he only wanted to use the phone with a local SIM card whilst he was back at home.

And with my experiences with a 3 broadband dongle, the company are not be viewed as a practical alternative to T-Mob/Voda/Orange or O2 - they really are extremely poor at every level.
