N96 Good Secondary Phone To My i8510?

I am about to do my upgrade & I wondered if people thought the N96 would make a good secondary phone to an i8510.

I can get the N96 free, but have been put off by more negative reviews in GSMArena & What Mobile. Plus some N96 users seem far from happy. Plus I am concerned about it's small battery for modem use.

I am keen to replace my N95 8Gb as I cannot use the camera on it now.

I have to say that I think it helps if you didnt have the N95. I love the N96 but never had a N95. It seems those that had the N95 are not that happy. The phone is buggy and the dvb-h tuner thing is a bit misleading, but on the whole I am happy.

I have noted a few former N95 8Gb owners don't seem that happy with the change.

In this order the five biggest uses.

1. Mobile web surfing
2. Modem for Mac laptop.
3. Video playback
4. Music
5. Camera

I was going to say N85, but since the N96 has a bigger screen, perhaps thats more suited to you.

Although all of those are very battery draining, so....

How about waiting for the Tube?

Good batterylife, and a good screen. Good for everything except perhaps the camera.

Why on earth would you want an N96 as a secondary phone to an i8510???

They are so similar that I can't see any point whatsoever. Why not get another i8510?

If I were you I'd get a completely different style of phone to complement the i8510. I dunno, maybe an E71 or possibly even a (gasp) iPhone.

Thats what I thought, but I figured it was a spare in case the other got mangled.

If it truely was a secondary phone, Id definatly go for the 5800.

Well it is just one choice amongst a number.

I am also looking at the N85, C905, Xperia X1 & HTC Touch HD.

Thing is I need to make sure it has a proper modem mode to work with a Mac laptop. So I have discounted the KC910 & M8800 as I don't think they have modem modes nor are so hot at web browsing.

I plan to look into the 5800 at some point, but I really want to replace my N95 8GB while I am in the process of changing networks.
