Video Capturing for P800

28 replies · 6,926 views · Started 14 February 2003

I used to have a Nokia 7650 and i use T-Mobile Video Messaging to capture short video clips (limit of to 100k) but i have not tested that software on my P800. Has anyone tried it yet?

Or is there a available software to capture video using P800?

I've spoken to plp @ orange here in the uk and the p800 HAS video capture, very short, but it's there...apparently....this feature is another reason for the delay. everybody should get this though in an software update...

Could somebody tell me, what is the latest firmware ?? I've bought my P800 on Wednesday and I have phone software R1D - is ot allright ?
Thanx :bday:

How about R1B Phone Ver.
is it Way not updated
does Ericsson Workshops Do the Updating ... cz we dont got Sonyericcson here ???
what is the Latest Firmware ??
just answer me in reply please ...

I bought my unit almost 5 weeks back now and upgraded the software last week.

Category Original FW After Upgrade
Phone SW R1B R1D
BT SW R2C R2C
PDA R1C R1F
CDA R1B R1B

Notice only the Phone and PDA software was upgraded. So far i haven't encountered any crash (10secs thingy).

The reply about the my phone SW version was from me, i forgot to log in. It's best for you to find a SE authorised service centre to upgrade and it will take about 2 hours to upgrade.

Yeah, the r1D is the widespread upgrade. Some B...... have the R1F and I envy them. I heard rumors that the p800 released in the US will have the r1F but they're just rumors. Regarding video capture mmmmmm I really would be surprised because if they where even thinking about it they would be announcing it loudly. Video capture is not one of those app. you don't make public bacause it's an almost exclusive 3G function. so those companies that have it in their phones make damn sure everybody knows. I'm sure there sill be a 3 party app. in the near future. Also caer issues will be fixed with 3d party....i hope

I hope, T-Mobile will release Software for making Videoclips with the P800 as they did for the 7650 here in Germany.
I think it should not be such an effort to port it from the Nokia...

Michael,

Could you get a copy of the T-Mobile Video Messaging software? I can't read German. I don't mind trying it out on my P800 to see if it works.

@lazzy: i'll try to get it. But it'll take some time, because you can't download it, it is sent by snail 😞

michael,

that's what i heard about too. i have a copy for Nokia 7650 but i haven't had time to install it on my P800. Wonder if it will work ...

Absolutely no chance of it working at all it's a different guise of the Symbian OS, SE haven't yet released details of the camera so as far as I can see one can't yet be developed. Maybe soon sometime in the future though.

Search the forum for a more detailed explanation of why this isn't possible....something to do with spying or something, but I think that is an excuse

J2theIZZO,

This is something like the T-Mobile Video Messaging for the Nokia 7650. Video capturing was supposed to be solely for 3G phones but T-Mobile blew it 😊

Videoconferencing is the trade of 3G phone, there is no problem with video capture on a 2.5G phone (Or any symbian phone + the right software and a camera). The "T-Mobile" software was actually made by Hantro who specialise is this sort of thing 😊

Maybe we might see that on the P800, if SE want to give them a hand

well 2 be honest for mms video sending long files are not appropriate anyway but how short is SHORT on the video capture thats suppose 2 be on the orange p800? anyone got a clue?

:-? - Orange are including Video Capture with the P800?....It's not that long are inappropriate just that Orange/T-Mobile/Voda/O2 put size limits on MMS, so say you have a 100kb limit, then you can only send a small clip in any case thats why they put a limit on the recording, it would be nice to have the option to change that though.

Well, when orange really distributes a capture-Software for the P800, i hope it isn't locket for orange-network...

for sure jizzo im sure a 3rd party developer/s will make something that will do the trick soon enough! 😉

Well i bought a P800 yesterday from an orange shop (loving it, got a bunch of apps on there already) and there is so hint of any videocapturing software anywhere in the phone, documentation, or marketing material. sounds like a myth to me.

I got my P800 from Orange and no video on this one either - it is a myth. However i did pay 199.00 at an Orange shop because I chose a contact over 55quid per month, and have been able to downgade the tariff without a penalty, so that's not a myth.

Is the mms filesize limit network dependant, if so does anyone know what is the maximum amount of data is that can be sent in 1 mms message with vodafone.

Just tried sending a pic taken with comunicam on medium settings 39.5Kb. Got to 94% and would not send saying file was too big. Whats the point of a cam and mms if you cant send the pictures

Before that I tried sending bigger files 130Kb and 66Kb they both stopped on 94% and then said the files were too big. So perhaps it is some other problem rather than an mms filesize limit, as they all failed at 94%. You would expect the larger the file the lower percentage it would stop at.

Any ideas ?

Hmm.. the phone is not suppose to be the one to decide if the file is big or not, for certain you have to check your settings. Can you send and MMS without any pic? Just text? I was able to send a 200kb file with no problem at all, but the recipient did not get it thought because it is too big, I was able to send it. I was able to recieve a 10s video file via MMS from a 3650 and I got it without any problems, I was also able to send all the built in MMS messages to others and they recieved it.

@Muzik The video you received from a 3650 is in MP4 format? Are you able to send it again to someone else? Or the MMS that you sent were just from built in templates of your P800?

Are you using SMART?

It was in *.3gp format. Whatever that format is its really small, good quality and good audio! the biggest Ive recieved from my girlfriends 3650 is around 81k 😊 Ive been able to send the built in templates, pictures ive taken and sounds ive created 😊 I was also able to send an Mp4 file althought she did not recieve it I was able to send it, around 200kb of it

I just sent the confused template that comes on the phone, that is 27.8kb and sent ok. Justr tried again with a comunicam picture 39.3kb.

Get the message

Failed to send MMS
Not accepted message too big.

This is not good news if I cannot send pictures I take over mms

Just got off the phone with vodafone, there is a 30kb limit of mms messages. Hardly worth bothering with :x
