Smartphone Show - Firmware Updates
...nothing official yet, but watch this space.
All the i8510s on display had the HH9 firmware installed, but I haven't yet had a chance to test it for bug fixes.
What I can say for now is that the first firmwares will be available via their website, as Nokia do. We certainly won't be seeing OTA updates this year 😞
Maybe Im gonna say something stupid here, but Ive just got the phone, and the firmware is HI1... it has english, chinese and malayn languages, I guess HI is supposed to come after HH isnt it? Peace.
HH and HI are language / region codes in Samsung speak, so NO - HI doesnt come after HH, sorry!
So HH9 would be followed by HH10, not HI1
Correct, HH is the country code, so HH10 will be the next firmware
Samsung have just called me to give me a progress update on the memory card problem and they say they ARE testing a new firmware........so fingers crossed it will be released soon!
The first firmware updates will be made available via a download system similar to Nokia's software update. (details will be on Samsung's website)
We *should* see at least one firmware update released this year!

Would it not be possible to release a quick patch for the bugs we have found?

Unfortunately it's not as simple as that... unless using FOTA (which Samsung won't be doing this year) you can't easily patch a firmware install, you need to flash the entire phone with a new firmware, which means building / testing / network approval / packaging / distributing that firmware.
