N96 + N95 8GB Battery

I just tried putting my old BL6 N95 8GB battery into my N96 and it works fine.
Will this now give me a similar battery life to the N95 8GB or will it not improve things?
If it does improve things then I ask the obvious question: Why did Nokia not ship the phone with a BL6?

I have did the same think on my N96, but I cannot close the cover properly. You? Or have You modified the cover somehow..
