Apologies if this has been discussed a million times already but I'm having great difficulty backing up my contacts.
Using the backup facility in PC Suite enables me to backup everything except Contacts.cdb and a font that I couldn't care less about.
When trying to drag and drop using the explorer type screen I get the message that contacts is in use or read only (every process/prog has been stopped including the telephone).
When trying to change the attribute of the file to remove the archive status it just jumps back to being an archive file.
I am well and truly stuck and my knowledge should allow me to combat this one.
Is the only way to make another database, copy from the original to the new one, back up the new one then delete it?
Please tell me I'm missing something here......
Try to create another database in Contacts. Then select it.
Next, switch off the phone, kill Contacts, Telephone, Messaging, ... (Ctrl-Shift-Chr-K in target app. or use any task manager to do it) and try again to copy the file.
Good luck.
I recognize that problem from the (far) past.
Now, with the latest data suite and the latest upgrade on firmware the problem disappeared, at least on my toy.
I am not sure but I think that you have either an old data suite, or you need a 4.13 upgrade)

Thanks Zeus. I tried your suggestions (to the letter) but I was still met with the message telling me that the file was in use or read only (even when the communicator was looking at the new database and then contacts were shut down).
Huib, I have version 1.20 of PC Suite (data suite?) and have V4.13 on the 9210 but I still get the same problem.
To resolve it I created a new database on the memory card, copied all the contacts across and backed the new one up. It didn't take long.
Anyway, thanks for the help guys - I must have a dodgy set up here!
