Flashing light on centre button

Only had my N96 for a couple of days, I have searched through the manual and can't find an answer.
When I close the phone and leave it, after a while the middle button flashes every now and again. this is irritating when its dark as you can see it quite clearly.

Also on Stanby Menu, I use the icons across the top and can change them to what I want, yet I can't find anyway of getting rid of the icons on the wallpaper (No calendar entries, search internet, Wlan Off and Share online)

I don't want those there as most are already along the top anyway.

How do I remove them?

Updating firmware. I have an O2 phone, which doesn't have a new firmware yet. If I change the product code, does my phone have to be connected whilst it downloads the update file to my PC? I think someone said it was around 115MB, which will take an hour or two on my broadband connection (if I don't need to have the phone connected, I can leave it download and go out)

Thanks

Its a feature of all newer firmwares and I don't think it can be disabled.

It only does it once or twice on mine then stops

the flash is it going into power saving mode ... which is a bit weird to flash something when your trying to save power but hey..

You cant remove the other links on the screen whilst you still have standby by options on, but if you want you can use the 4 way key instead for shortcuts and just get rid of the stand by?

hahah, I was just looking at breathing options... unfortunately the manual I gots in Finnish!! :@

I understand that breathing is the light pulsing option around the navi wheel although there isnt exactly one on the N96 but Id guess it would be the same.

so switch is off bubs.

Cheers for the replies so far, I shall look at the breathing option when I go downstairs.

Can anyone answer my firmware update question?

Ive never thought about whether then phone needs to be connected all the time, but Id assume so because it needs to check the phone id to see if theres an update available, and if there is off it goes to get it, and then runs into automatically updating it. The time its actually downloading if you remove you phone I doubt it would stop the download but Ive never tried it.

If theres no phone when its downloaded tho... it wouldnt work. Just do it whilst you have t or something?

hehe I only have 512k internet, so I think it would have to be on over night. I'm still not sure I want to update it yet, as I don't want to brick the phone

The Breathe settings worked, no idea why they included it :con?

The breathing shows if you have a new message or missing calls by breathing/flashing twice. If you turn off breathing you will miss that feature.

Thats odd as mine was doing it when I hadn't got any missed calls or messages. No big issue for me, as I don't get many calls or messages, in fact I sometimes wonder why I have a mobile 😃

right, the light is present on all new phones including 6220 and new n series, it is a nice way to indicate that you have a message or missed a call but you can indeed disable it - breathing turn off...

breathing isnt indicative of a missed call/sms on all phones though it seems. The N85 breathes the same message or no message.

oh really the same rate....hmm that is indeed curious i guess i have to call myself right now to find out 😉

kontraband, I reckon you are right, mine breathes the same, perhaps it's because the screensaver is visible for a long time....unlike on any other N series phone...

hahahhaha the things we do to find things out....also I find it strange because even 6220 has that as an option and if you have new incoming messages or missed calls its light up pattern changes...huh weird stuff

yes it is strange. Any of the newer phones that have 'lighting options' all seem to breathe or pulse or do something when they have a missed call/message.
