Is it possible to transfer files from N95 to PC or from PC to N95 using WiFi? How can we configure this? I have already configured a WiFi access point for having DSL internet on my N95 but I don't know how to transfer files through it.
And secondly, can we play any video which is on N95 to watch it directly on PC using WiFi?
Using N95, can we exchange files with PC using WiFi?
You can use wifi to transfer files but i wouldn't bother, it's no quicker than using the USB cable, and you have to go hunting for the files after you've copied them over.
If you do want to try it then you need to setup Home Media on the phone and install Home Media on your PC/Laptop (software should be on the CD that came with your phone).
In addition to the Home Media, you can share files using a variety of ways:
1) SYMSMB - Proper file sharing through Windows Sharing (SMB). Can map drives to Windows boxes and copy data. Also plays some media files. Expensive to purchase (trial available)
2) FTP - set up FTP file server and use some freeware Java FTP client to connect to PC. Does not play media files direct
3) Web server - set up a Web service on the PC and use the browser to connect and download (or even upload).
I disagree about "transfer files no quicker than USB cable" as SymSMB through Wifi is WAY WAY faster than the N95 USB2 implementation (slow mode)..
Personally recommend the SymSMB if you can afford it.. or alternatively get a new phone - Samsung innov8 as that has the functionality inbuilt..!!

1. Yes (WiFi file transfers) - buy a program like symSMB
2. Probably (Streaming video) - buy a program to turn your PC into a Media Server and configure RealPlayer (on the N95) to read the media stream. Sorry if this is vague, I have not tried streaming from PC to N95. There may even be an app already available to do what you want... anyone???

Orb. It's free.
BlackN91 wrote:once you have used symsmb you will never go to Orb again.
Well they do different things. I think symsmb is great, but orb lets you stream video which symsmb does not. Orb also works easily over the internet instead of just wifi, whereas using symsmb over the internet takes considerably more effort and is typically less secure.
BlackN91 wrote:
Orb will not do that at all, specially considering word "directly", but symsmb will do that as a piece of cake.
That is simply untrue. Orb will not stream video from the n95 to a pc, but it will stream directly from a pc to the n95. Symsmb will not stream video in either direction, it currently supports audio files only.
By all means make posts supporting symsmb, it's a very good piece of software, but please do not oversell it. You make many posts about symsmb, to the point that you sound very much like an employee.
BlackN91 wrote:Its not quite right. May be you are talking about earliest versions, but at least the latest version SymSMB 4.00 can stream audio and video from phone to computer and it is what was precisely asked for by this thread creator (!)
In direction from computer to phone it can stream audio only.
I didn't realise that, thanks for the information.
wow, hot topic!
Home Media Server would've been my recommendation too for a quick & simple & free solution. Definitely streams audio, pics & video and i think it'll do it from the pc as long as it's a format the phone recognises (ie 3gp as opposed to avi). I may be corrected on that.
Anyhow, once set up you can send files across your "home network".
