Our sister site All About Symbian has done the first part of an in-depth hands-on preview of the upcoming Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, using a prototype pre-production model. The 5800 (codenamed "tube"😉 is the first S60 phone to have a touchscreen, and will apparently receive N-Gage compatibility some time after its launch in 2009. Gameswise the prototype 5800 comes with a touch-controlled version of Bounce, and also has an accelerometer-controlled version of 3D driving game Global Race.

Just like to emphasise two things:

1) This is a PROTOTYPE, it's not the final version of the 5800. The phone you see in the shops in 2009 may have some things tweaked and altered, which is why the article is a preview rather than a full review.

2) The 5800 is a mid-range device, it costs about half the price of typical Nseries or iPhone devices. Because it's so much cheaper, it shouldn't really be compared with them as it's aimed at a different audience. Nokia should be bringing out some more expensive touchscreen Nseries devices later in 2009 which would be much more direct iPhone competitors.
