Hi guys
I was just wondering whether all N96 owners here are happy with the music quality in their phones, post updating to firmware version 11.018. My phone (I live in Chennai, India) finally showed an update available through over the air mode and it took about 10 mins or so to finish it and reboot.
I forgot to mention that my N96 was replaced by the Nokia showroom guys after some discussion with their manager, since this was a premium product and they wanted to satisfy the customer first. They told me to wait while this was discussed and the decision was taken to give me a new phone. I got my new phone in the 2nd week of October 2008 (I bought the N96 on 18 Sep after prebooking on 2nd Sep). I had handed over an A4 sheet full of all the issues faced with the phone, keeping a copy of the same for my records. Once the guy at the counter saw this sheet, he took it and probably handed it over to his manager and told me to wait for a few mins.
Well I am glad they replaced my phone. The same night I got the replaced unit, with a new box pack, new bill/receipt etc, I did the over the air firmware update. Wanted to update it before I did anything else with the phone.
Generally the phone has been good but yesterday I loaded around 5 GB of songs - mostly MP3s at 320 Kbps - and I am not that happy with the music quality. I like bass and treble in my music so I usually arrange my graphic equaliser in the "V" shape (where the voice would be the lowest, since I enjoy the music more than the voices). I had Loudness on, Stereo Widening off and was just playing with the equaliser settings. I had the earphones of my N73ME connected (Nokia HS 28 model I think) and I noticed that when I increased the bass, the treble reduced, and vice versa.
This was bad. It shouldn't happen like this. Has any of you N96 owners noticed this ? I was only adjusting the 1st knob in the equaliser, which was bass. The treble knob stayed in the middle setting. As I increased the bass, the treble reduced while listening though the treble knob was in the same setting. When I reduced the bass, the treble went up again. So when I increased the bass and treble to say, 2 points above the middle setting, music quality was average due to the above mentioned phenomenon.
Would like your inputs on this guys !!
Warm regards,
