Nokia contest: Find your true identity

2 replies · 2,142 views · Started 10 November 2008

Ever since I started developing mobile applications, I always thought to make a name for myself in the field. But despite developing some good applications I always remained obscure and the company I worked with got all the credit and the money.

Not that I complain of the company, after all they gave me the job and the chance to do the stuff in the first place and they did give me decent promotions and bonuses. But still something was missing. May be I want a separate niche for me. I dont have dearth of ideas, what I lack is opportunity.

Now this Nokia contest Calling All Innovators seems like the opportunity I had been waiting for. If my innovation makes the grade, it will give me the ideal platform to showcase my talent and ideas on the biggest stage possible through their global contest.
There are three submission categories to choose from (including ECO-Challenge, Emerging Markets and Technology Showcase), which means everybody has multiple chances to win.

Winning developers will:

Get to exhibit their applications at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain
Participate in meet and greets with Industry leaders, VCs, Mobile Operators and distributors
Win cash prizes up to $25,000 (USD).
I say, this is really cool.

Why am I discussing this? Well, what are the joys of winning if there is no competition?

So guys get ready to play catch up, the winner might just already be there.

Win cash prizes up to 35,000$ not 25,000$...this will make it more WAW...am there but am one step behind the profession..forget about World Class developer...but i have a nice chance since they provide a community and a training solutions & since i have time to read them too.

Thanks.

It'll be interesting to see just how much real innovation this brings out.

I once sponsored a competition for Win Mobile, which was intended to kick start some innovation, but I think it's now very hard to innovate - so much has already been done for one platform or another.

Personally I'm bored with all the Social stuff (facebook et al), but I would be hoping to see some "real world" stuff - something that lets me use my device to interact with the real world around me.

I'm interested in location-aware stuff and efficiency apps, so perhaps something like an app to remind me to get the groceries when it detects I'm near a supermarket.

I won't be developing (don't know Symbian C++ and don't like Java) but I'll be interested to see what ideas people come up with
