I just bought my i8510 INNOV8 last last Monday and think its a great phone. Since then, I've been doing lots of reading on this forum and surfing to find out what I can about it. So this is my first post and also my first time using a phone with an operating system.

Here are some issues I'm having:

-I cannot locate the alarm on my phone. I went through the phone many times, but can't find a regular alarm clock to set. There is an alarm thing in calender to set to remind you of meetings and stuff, is that what I need to do? I cannot find a regular alarm clock option at all.

-I do not have route66 installed on my phone. I know maps won't be installed but I don't even have the application. Was what I read true that its only for some countries that had it come with route66 and some didn't?

-My previous phone (903SH) was weird that when I got text messages from other people, says I received the text 5hours earlier. So if a friend sends a text to me at 10pm, it says it was received at 5pm. My i8510 is also doing the same thing. Any ideas?

-Calendar view preference is not saved when I exit calendar and go back in. I'm going to assume this is the same as the anti shake issue and is due to firmware and will probably be fixed in an update.

-Are the limitations of the resolutions of the divx files that can be played on the phone because of real player or the phone itself? Would getting a different program to play the videos allow for higher res files? I'm asking because I'd really like to not need to convert some of my videos each time I want to put them onto the phone.

-Also I can surf the net through wifi but cannot stream videos through youtube. The video just keeps loading forever. Is this because its just too slow? If I were on 3G would I not have this problem? unfortunately, this phone does not support the Canadian 3G frequencies or whatever 😞

I don't know if it helps but the following information is my phone's information:

Software Version: I8510DJHI1
Software Version Date: 01/09/2008

Custom Version: I8510L15FMGH1
Custom Version Date: 01/09/2008

I'm looking forward to great things with this phone. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the forum... I hope the answers below help:

1) The alarm is set from the clock application, which by default is in the Settings folder of the main menu.

2) Only some regions (countries) get Route66 pre-installed on the phones. The firmwares which do have it installed have the XX region code, whereas the firmware you have listed as being on your phone has a DJ region code. This means your phone has come from a country / region which doesn't (for whatever reason Samsung decided on, presumably licensing) come with Route66 pre-installed.

3) That issue sounds like a "simple" time zone issue. Does your phone think you're in the same time zone as your clock is set to?

4) Calendar "initial view" preference only has an effect when launching the calendar application from the main menu (in the Office folder by default). When launching calendar from the active standby screen, it will ALWAYS launch today's view. This is not a firmware bug with the i8510; more a generic annoyance in ALL S60 phones.

5) I'm not sure of the DIVX resolution limits for the phone. I have managed to get some VGA encoded (640x480) files to play perfectly, although I haven't tried anything with a higher resolution.

Thank you for your quick reply. I cannot believe I couldn't find the alarm clock. I feel so new. Thank you for pointing out where it was. Anyways, with route66 and calendar thing I guess I will have to deal with it. The divx issue, I will try and transfer some more videos later tonight when I get home.

As for the timezone thing, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. My timezone is set to local. Which it picks up right. Also when I try and pick my own I can only pick country. Canada has many timezones though this is why I use local and it picks it up and sets my clock for me too I think. I'm unsure as to how to resolve this issue.

Hi, I too am new to this forum, I got the i8510 on Saturday!

I have noticed the battery runs out pretty quickly, I have power saving mode on, the auto pivot is off, WAN is off and it still seems to drain really quickly.

Also, Any news on the dust issue? I have no dust under the screen yet and i'd rather not get any, Has anyone any solutions?

Thanks

I have had my 8510 since they were released (back in September) and I have NO dust under my screen either. Simply take care of the phone and it should be fine.

The battery on the 8510 is pretty damned good. It should last you a good 2 days with everthing (GPS, WLAN, Bluetooth) turned off. If it's not, then it's likely something is using a power hungry application. Make sure your phone is not constantly searching for a data connection (either 3G / HSDPA / EDGE or WiFi) and make sure GPS tagging is turned off in your camera settings.

That was going to be my next question!

Thanks for the help on the other bits aswell stuclark.

I may also be expecting too much from the battery too? I went from a sony ericsson k810 that is alot more basic and would theoretically last longer?

SE batteries are unbeatable... Thats not the case here, 2 days is the best u can get... I just came back from an REM concert and used the video camera for like, 15 minutes, battery was fully recharged, now the phone is dead, ok, not dead, sleeping. If u wanna turn the packet data off the way is menu>settings>connection>packet data>packet data connection>when needed. The thing is very simple, if u use it just for calls, little browsing, some pictures, 3 songs, u can get maybe 2 days and a half... but if u wont leave the phone alone, every night itll ask for some electric stamina.

Alright, I tried putting on more videos on my phone last night and can't seem to find out whats wrong. The following are my results for what I uploaded to my phone:

40min show less than 640x480 about 350mb - unable to play clip
4min music video at 640x480 about 80mb - played fine
20 minute show at 640x480 about 175mb - played but stuttered a tiny bit at some parts
40 minute show at 640x480 about 350mb - unable to play clip
various movies at resolutions less than 640x480 about 700mb - unable to play clip

What I am starting to think is that the phone cannot play videos which are either too big in filesize, too long in duration or not keeping the aspect ratio of 640x480. I will try again later tonight, but I was really hoping to just drag and drop my videos (anything less than 640x480 ratio (even funny ratio'd videos)) to have it play on my phone.

On a side note, I don't know if there is a way to fast forward or rewind while playing videos, but if someone knows that'd be helpful.

Left and right on the middle square fast forward or rewind, or if it is rotated it is up and down 😉

Not quite!!! Not for me!!! Mine battery doesn't last whole 24hours...if I use it hard like I do...calls,messaging,camera,it last from 8am till 10-11pm and shuts down!!! I know this is not normal, but can you tell me something I dont know to fix this???

Thanks langdale. Had to wait a little bit before it actually starts the fast forwarding or rewinding.

Same here. I read elsewhere that it might have something to do with themes, but that seems improbable, and I haven't been able to verify that claim.

XX means the region I believe. I have version XXHH9, custom version L04XENHHc, 29/8/2008

My Innov8 also didn't come with Route 66. Is there a way to download this? It doesn't seem very fair that Samsung would give some people the app for free and then make others pay $150 for it. Google Maps is great, but it can't compete with true GPS voice navigation.

I think people should do a little research before whining for the wrong reasons... Route66 is free to download at their site, no 150s involved... u only pay for the maps u install, which are fairly cheap in my opinion, paid 9 euros for mine...the app that comes installed doesnt include any map... so, Im sorry to say, youre whining for the wrong reasons, my bad...
Not only that, u can install Copilot 7, Sygic Drive, and Garmin (very soon)... for free... its only a matter of a doing a little research. Try Google, heard of that?

Hm if I go to my local site, I can either choose Benelux for 60E or Europe for 120E. That's about 75 and 150$ respectively.
