N85 keypad lighting issue

13 replies · 4,794 views · Started 11 November 2008

I use my phone for work, as a result of that I talk for long periods of time, while in a conversation the screen stays lit and the number/caller is displayed, however...the keypad light turns off and stays off...meaning that if I try to press it during a call to type a text message or something to that effect the keypad does not light up again until after I finish the call. Anyone else similar experience?

Not noticed that myself... so will check it out. I had an issue where all the lights stayed on after I had finished a conversation and it never went into power save though, but thats really the opposite of what we are talking about here.

I've got the Emerging Asia product code so it appears it does not have to be exclusive to product code, perhaps new firmware will take care of that issue hmmm

I must say I'm well impressed with how well this phone works for a brand new firmware.

It seems like there are very few problems with it, and these will hopefully fixed with just one or two firmware updates.

GS you are absolutely right !!! The firmware is suprisingly stable and delivers way more then let's say ....oh N96 on first firmware.....I love this phone yet it does have some strange and peculiar things occur with it...isn't all in life that is of any quality a work in progress....

Radical, I too have the same issue on my phone. I purchased it while I was in India in November. I tried going to the the Nokia Care center there and emailing Nokia Asia, but no one was any help. During an active call, the keypad light goes off and doesn't come on even when a button is pressed, this is obviously a bug of some kind. I hope the new firmware fixes it, I have yet to upgrade.

the word out there is that it is fixed in the v11...firmware, mine seems to be fixed at least partially , again i am one of these people that use my phone so much that i don't need the light on the keypad so although it appears to be solved on mine i am not sure to what extend

It's *NOT* fixed on my v11.

It's now very spurious when the keypad lights up, and will occasionally flash very quickly on but then go off.

I'm also having trouble with some keypresses now on v11.

V11 has turned it into a more unreliable phone for me! It was pretty sound before......

I am beginning to think that this problem is only with a few sets because other people with the N85 don' t seem to have the same issue. Can someone else with the phone confirm if they have the same problem or not?

I'm running the latest firmware on a EURO 1 product code N85. I've just tried it now. Dialled our office number. Answered with office phone. Left both phones open. After 20-30 seconds or so keypad light went off whereas screen remained on. Pressing the numeric keypad brought keypad light on again.

Does that help?

yes it does help 😊 just trying to collect various user experiences, calling myslef right now to see the keypad behavior after the firmware update, in my case the issue appears to be fixed and the keypad actually lights up if i want to use it to text or else....very happy with that disocvery

I think you're right!

For the record, I re-installed v11 firmware twice today and now it's working perfectly. Strange, but I'm very happy. My love for this phone is once again renewed
