Hello all.
I recently debranded my N95.1 on Vodafone and updated the firmware to V30.0.015 and now I can't seem to be able to install software such as the BBC IPlayer (for mobiles) and the PythonForS60 software.
The iplayer.wgz just doesn't do anything after the 'Please finish the installation on the phone user interface' when trying to install via the Nokia Applications Installer, and the PythonForS60_1_4_4_3rdEd.sis gets so far through the installation and then cancels.
Where am I going wrong. All this worked before debranding. At this rate I will reformat to Vodafone (and I really don't want to do that unless I have to).

Firstly, you can't re-brand to Vodafone until they support V30.
(Downgrading a Nokia smartphone bricks the handset rendering it useless - and Nokia won't honour the warranty of a bricked de-branded phone!)
Secondly, I am surpised you are gettings so many issues with V30... did you restore a backup after the firmware? This almost always causes problems.
What errors do you get when installing these 2 apps?
It could be the certificate attached to the apps has expired (in which case, set the date back 6 or 12 months and re-try the install).
Alternatively, you may need to adjust the app installer settings to allow installation of untrusted certificates.
I am sure with a bit of effort and ideas from forum members we can get you to a point where you are happy with V30. 😉
You say I cant de-brand my phone but I understood using the reflasher software was in effect de-branding allowing me to install the V30 software (which vodafone does not support yet).
Yes I probably restored a back up. I thorght I was just restoring contacts etc but may well have restored everything which is why I had to hard reboot a few times. That explains some of my problems.
But as for the programs not installing, I can live without the PythonForS60 software but I really want the BBC iPlayer to work. I'm not getting any error messages, I get the question:
'Do you want to install the application to the phone?'
I click on the green tick
A new box comes up saying:
'Please finish the installation on the phone user interface.'
I again click on the green tick, and nothing happens. Usually thats when a dialog box comes up on the phones screen, but for me nothing.
I tried putting the date back as you suggested and that did nothing either.
Its just really annoying, I got iplayer installed first time and all was great. Messed about, thinking I was going to improve things, and I have just made things worse.
I always treat the installing of new firmware like getting a new phone. You always have to start from scratch. I've found using backup troublesome in the past, so always just install everything fresh.
If you try this approach you may find you don't get these annoying glitches.

Hi,
I meant you cannot RE brand the phone (back to Vodafone) until Voda support V30, as downgrading firmware will brick the handset. NSU will not downgrade FW in any event, so you should be safe. However, Nokia's engineer programs (if you sent the handset in for repair) WILL attempt to downgrade the FW (and kill the handset) if you change the product code back to the original code before Voda supports V30. Hope this clears up any confusion? 😉
If you restored a backup, I would perform a hard-reset (power up whilst holding 3, * and green buttons for 30 seconds), then restore only contacts etc.
You may have to go to App Manager, locate the iPlayer app and uninstall it. Alternatively, try installing to different memory locations - try internal memory first time and if no luck, try installing to mass-memory/memorycard. It could be that the restore you performed has only partially restored the app. Java apps rarely automatically re-install correctly after a FW upgdade or internal memory format.
Best of luck!
Thanks Dez_Borders, I will give it a try.
Contract runs out oat the end of Jan so if I cant get it to work, I will just have to wait until then and upgrade. Just don't know which phone to get, N96, Google G1, Sony Erricson X1 or the Blackberry Storm.

I have been a Nokia fan for over 10 years, but I don't like slide handsets, so would probably avoid the N96. What's the equivalent? N85?
Ok, the iPlayer issue is a simple one.
The iPlayer install file is a .wgz file, not the usual .sis/.sisx file. .wgz is the extension used in the s60 Web Runtime widget packages. It is essentially a renamed zip file.
If you try and install it using PC Suite (i.e. double click on the iPlayer .wgz file) what actually happens is the install program is unpackaged and sent to the memory drive (E:\installs) on your phone and it's from there that you have to launch the installation (use File Manager or somesuch).
Or, the far simpler method is to send the iPlayer.wgz file to your handset as a Bluetooth message and install from there.
Nothing to do with the v30 firmware 😊
Oh, and I second everything Dez has said about restoring backups. I only back up contacts and calendar. I then uninstall everything, reformat the card and start from scratch, reinstalling what I need when I'm done.
Hope that helps 😊
Thanks guys,
I actually came across doing it that way because I was surfing using the phone and found the .wgz file and tried installing it and it worked.
So thanks guy.
