Hi, After months & months of pondering, I switched back over to Nokia-Symbian, relinquishing Blackberry & Windows PDA phones.
I love it so far BUT, I just can't seem to understand why Symbian would just not give you a way to see middle name in the phone book. I mean, this is elementary and the lack of it is causing me frustrations abound.
I have over a 1000 contacts and have always religiously used First, Middle & Last Names - Middle for any contact specific info but since I can't see this darned Middle name on my new phone, it all lay useless and in some cases, 4 or 5 of my contacts look all the same as only the middle name differentiated between them.
In saying that, I'd also admit my naivity with Symbian and hence, hoping someone could give me the magic wand which would start showing the Middle Name in my phone's contacts ?

nokia contact app sucks royally
hopefully the 5th edition one is a massive improvement - as the current S60 one is basically the same as nokia phones have had for 10+ years with some extra fields added in.
it always annoys me that in order to read an address the only way to see it is to edit it - as the view mode cuts it off. shockingly bad. and something nokia seem not to want to change as its seen as some holy grail of their usability.
on keypad based phones its even worse as theres no t9 selection of contacts.
at least on the e71 you can get to names quickly
If you have the Middle names in Outlook you could easily write a VB script process to combine First and Middle - which would then show up on your device.
Not ideal I know, but I've found that most of the (annoying) weaknesses in Symbian can be worked around quite easily
macwhu, Yes, you are right. It is not so dissimilar from what I saw in a Nokia phone about 5 years ago.. I think it was 7xxx model.
chucky, I was considering that alternative as well - of combining middle & first names, however, didn't know it could be done easily (rathe than scouring through my > 1000 contacts.)
Could you possible give me the steps here on the VB script ps ?

It would be fairly easy to write a simple python script to do a full text search of your contacts just for searching.
Python script ? In the Nokia phone ? Don't know the heads & tails of it. Could you pls give me some pointers ?
