Title says it all really, I want to buy an E71 but not if it means losing my TomTom software.
Please don't recommend Garmin or Copilot etc. I haven't been impressed with any of the other software out there.
If anyone has TomTom 6 running on their E71 against a Bluetooth GPS please speak up, and if you had to do anything funky to make it work it would be good to know what.
Thanks,
Xerxes
I've had it running on mine: Works like a dream compared to my N80. Landscape screen isn't a problem (I thought it might be).
Sad to pour some salt in here, but if anybody says they have had Tomtomt running on their E71 - it's a lie.
It installes, but it never starts up when trying to run it.
Search the forums to confirm if you like to.

Sorry mate, but you are just plain wrong, I believe you are refering to the version modified by binpda to use the internal GPS which as you say doesn't start up.
The original TomTom 6 works just fine on the E71 using a bluetooth GPS.

Yep, I can confirm this too. Even if you use the program to create a dummy bluetooth device and use a legal copy, it still does not get a location.
I can provide a photo of an E71 with TomTom working if you need that little bit of extra encouragement 😉

Sorry if I'm wrong, but I'm referring to TT6 which can freely be downloaded from TT's support pages (http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_uk.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6893&p_created=1172229172&p_sid=4PCfTYjj&prod_lvl1=142&prod_lvl2=1401&cat_lvl1=215&p_accessibility=&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0xNSwxNSZwX3Byb2RzPTE0MiwxNDAxJnBfY2F0cz0yMTUmcF9wdj0xLjE0MjsyLjE0MDEmcF9jdj0xLjIxNSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX2ZubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1).
It does not work on my phone, and as far as I have noted a whole lot of other users on deifferent forums also has problem getting it working on E71-1.
Has not been able to run E71 since I converted from N95 in july..
Plz point me to a description on how I can install and make my 100% legit TT6 run on my E71 :|
I'm with mikezs, my legit version of tt6 which i've used for ages on my n95, works perfect on my new e71. Obviously i use a bluetooth gps but it loads fine and worked first time.
The first time i used it, I had to switch the phone off before putting the memory card in, but now it works flawlessly with my cheap ebay bluetooth gps!
Are we talking E71-1? Did it work also with the former FW version?
I'll have to give it a try again tomorrow 😊
Just to confirm - TomTom 6 works on both the E71 and E61 with an external gps. not had any joy with the E71's internal gps - but meh it works and looks a lot better than nokia maps.
I have got my tomtom started on my E71 but cant input the activation code for my maps - it will only accept the number 1 - none of the other numbers work with the function key pressed obviously. in fact T come up as A and H is an M instead of a 6 with the F key depressed.
anyone got around this strange one ?
thought i had it sorted when TT started and then -- doh!
cheers
FIXED IT NOW - YOU NEED TO HOLD DOWN THE NUMBER KEYS AND THE NEXT DIGIT APPEARS ! DOH!!
(Belated) Thanks for feedback.
So do you have to do anything particular to get TomTom to accept input from the qwerty keyboard? I seem to remember my old E61i have problems.
just hold down the bottom left key on the e71 and keep pressing the key with the number you want. It'll scroll through the different letters aassigned to that key just like before predivtive text and qwerty keyboards! Then it'll get to the number.
Hope it helps.
I've got tt6 running well with an external gps. Tried the patch for internal, but it just stays at 'connecting'. Not giving up though, the bridge software itself connects to the gps so there must be a way. can anyone clarify the process, as in, do you have to run the bridge program and leave it running while using tt? Or run it, then stop it before connecting to tt? Or neither!
Thanks!
