N73 pop-port or firmware problem?

Hi everyone,

I have a used Nokia N73 which unfortunately has a small technical problem. When I connect the phone to my PC with the supplied USB cable nothing happens. So, the cable must be defective, I thought. I got another cable and had exactly the same result. I tried the cables and N73 on several other PCs all without joy. Then using a 5500 I found that all the cables seemed to be okay. So, the pop-port must be defective, I thought. Then I remembered the pop-port headphones supplied with the phone which worked perfectly! So, maybe it is not a problem with the pop-port after all or perhaps just with one pin?

A colleague of mine suggests this is actually a firmware problem but how can I update the firmware when I can't connect a USB cable? Is it possible to update firmware OTA or can I copy it onto my memory card and do it that way?

Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone give me any advice? Is this phone totally shot or is there a cheap and easy way to get it back to full health?

Many thanks in advance,

Neil aka Haggisheed

I've had similar ...

N73 wouldn't connect to my Vista laptop by any means.

Then tried the same cable on my works (XP) laptop, and it connected fine.

Eventually got the N73 connecting to the Vista laptop - had to specify in the settings on the N73 that the cable connection was forced on as PC Suite.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it doesn't matter what mode I put the phone into, it still isn't recognised by the PC at all, nevermind by PC Suite or the Firmware upgrade software. But it didn't work with another cable either although the headset does work! Can anyone tell me if this is a hardware or firmware problem and if there is any way I can fix it?

Many thanks,

Neil

Hi,

Do have backup of your phone data & PC registries then
Uninstall Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Connectivity cable driver, PC Connectivity solution, Nokia flashing cable driver(if any on your PC), Run PC Suite cleaner. Install latest Nokia PC Suite from nokia.com/pcsuite, reboot your pc. Once pc started, connect your phone with USB in different ports of your PC and check 😊
Also make sure that your USB pins are not broken, clean the edges of the USB using clean cloth and check
