Google maps phone reset glitch.........and you have it too

Hello everyone, I'm Mig and I'm quite new to these forums. Anyway, I though I would inform you all of my problem. About 2 months ago I got the i8510 from CPW and since I got unlimited internet as part of my bundle, I started using the phones Google maps as my ways of navigation.

Even tho I select that I want the phone to always connect me to the internet via "O2 mobile web", when scrolling across the maps and needs to load up a map, it asks me AGAIN how I want to connect to the internet. Anyway, I click o2 mobile web and it works fine again. Then you scroll around the maps some more..........it will ask AGAIN........and then when I select O2mobile web the phone just resets itself!!! And it does it constantly, usually after the 2nd or 3rd prompt, it will just reset.

Restart the phone.........problem still there
Master reset the phone.........problem still there
Try download Gmaps again...........can't because factory installed
Returned it back to CPW and after 3 weeks of "repairing it", they said they don't have a firmware update so they have to give me a new phone. So I'm sitting here with my "new" innov8 (they did actually give me a new one since the serial number is completely different to my old one) I try run google maps, 2nd prompt........and the phone RESETS!!!!!!

Can someone else try their phones (if you have free mobile internet, lol), just scroll around google maps, zoom in, zoom out, whatever, just make it download more map data and then after it asks you how it should connect to the internet for the 2nd or 3rd time it most definitely will reset....... and if it doesn't then I will cry.

Many thanks in advance

Mig

The "problem" here (which isn't actually a problem at all, it's how Google Maps is detecting your default access point.

To stop it asking, you need to check your APN settings within the Settings > Connection > Destinations and Settings > Connection > Packet Data options.

In Destinations, ensure your "Internet" destination contains the APN you want to use, and ensure this is set as default.

In Packet Data set the "Access Point" to the APN of your choice. (not that S60 is stupid here, you have to type the APN name EXACTLY as it's defined in your Destinations settings (the APN name, not "Internet"😉, as the OS doesn't automatically lis the APNs you have installed)

That is set up correctly with me, however, google maps disconnects every few seconds. Then I can choose again whether or not I want to use WLAN or my default packet data AP. I coulg give that AP the highest priority, but then I wouldn't automatically use my home WLAN when home.

Stuclark, does your google maps stay connected when using packet data, and does it reset your phone?

My home WiFi is configured as my highest priority in "internet" too, but I doubt that's the issue - I think it's the "Packet Data" connection (the older setting in S60) which Google maps uses.

My google maps stays connected while i'm using it, or if it doesn't it auto-connects without me telling it to. And no, it never crashes the phone!

That's funny..... I checked the settings for my AP's, but didn't change anything... and now Google maps doesn't disconnect anymore, and doesn't crash anymore either............ Great that I don't have THAT problem anymore, but very weird that just checking the settings solved it.

Well I just checked my setting and they were wrong, so I selected that the destination should always be Internet. Anyways, it connected me to google maps fine and didn't prompt connection options again, NICE............but after little scrolling around the maps and saving some favourite destinations...........it reset again, I think I'm going to cry. Its as if when the catche/flash memory (sorry not very technical minded when it comes to computers/phones) gets full, it crashes.

There is this patch called "memory_patch.exe" from Samsung. You could try that.

I have it installed tho, and it didn't prevent the spontanious reboot as a consequence of the reconnecting. But the problem you have now might be a different problem.

Well my problem is exactly the same as yours as its only happening when the phone is connecting up whether automatically or manually. It doesn't matter whether I'm zoomed in on satellite view and each section of the map uses up 100kb, or on a field in map view and it uses up 10kb, it just resets when it feels like it after its lost connection couple times and re-connects.

Second quick question.......I've just been on amazeGPS and tried to download their free internet sat-nav, and when I go to download the file, the phone will ONLY let me download the file using WI-FI even tho I have it disabled, O2 web prioritised and good 3G connection?? How can I download that file using normal o2 mobile internet?

Thanks everyone

Mig

I have the same sporadic rebooting problem. It mainly does it in Google Maps but also will just do it randomly when accessing my calendar or any typical task. Samsung needs to come up with a firmware update quick.
