I know this has been touched on before, but I thought it worth updating everyone with Samsung's latest proceedure for this... If you are suffering from dust under the screen of your phone, do the following:
Phone Samsung Mobile Customer Care on : 0845 msamsung (that's 0845 67267864)
Press option #1 - Smartphones
Tell them your name, postcode & address
Tell them your phone's SERIAL number (NOT the IMEI number) - you'll find this under your phone's battery
They will send you out a pre-paid special delivery envelope - you put the phone & battery in this and send it to Samsung
They repair the phone for free (if it's a manufacturing fault; they won't repair customer damage for free (like if you've cracked the screen or dented the phone))
They send it back to you
Nice one, Mines not got to that stage yet but they're not going to wipe the memory while they're at it are they?
cheers for that... ive just called them! the guy on the phone said it'll take within 7 days for the sp envelope to arrive and around 10 days for them to send back the phone. make sure you take memory card/simcard out and backup your stuff (just in case) as he said they may put new firmware on it..
Will they actually repair the phone or replace it?
Im just thinking issues like licencing of Route66 etc for people who have paid and use it.
I suspect it's a repair, especially as they don't want the entire phone to be returned to them.
Holy crap! It would take like 2 weeks to get the dust removed?
Will it be quicker if I just take the phone to a service centre?
And there is a new firmware for upgrade available?
i'm hoping it will take less then 2 weeks, it shouldn't take long to fix it. im not sure how reliable this 'free' service is though. what happens if the phone gets damaged during transit?....
Hi can anyone confirm once they have had their phone back, and whether it still lets dust in.
Has anyone had their phone repaired, and returned to them dust free yet?

Mine is currently away with Samsung for the dust ptroblem, I will update on its return.
Update:
My phone has returned and is at least for the moment dust free. I do have to give the service (there is an argument to say it shouldn't have happened in the first place) a big thumbs up. Posted Fri. 16th Jan and returned to me this morning 21st Jan and that obviously includes a weekend.
I will monitor to see if I have further dust problems, I will be on to them again if it returns.

Have you any information about any kind of repairing other then screen cleaning?
Wow - just been on the phone to Samsung 'service' as I decided that I needed to get my dust problem sorted out too. Basically the guy who I spoke totally denied that there was a problem with dust under the screen - and said that it wouldn't be covered under the warranty anyway! When I mentioned this forum and all the other people who had reported the same fault he said forums were rubbish and people tell all kinds of lies - you shouldn't believe what you read etc.etc.......
After arguing with him for nearly half an hour and stating that my phione had a big hole in the back of the top bit behind the screen - which the one he had in his hand didn't - he conceded that it may be a manufacturing fault - and then went on to state that many people have returned their phones back to Carphone Warehouse for a refund/replacement and that I should contact my supplier for the same! I got mine from Mobile Phones Direct Ltd (not part of CPW to my knowledge) and will be returning it to them for repair/replacement.
Not quite the same response as previous posters! Anyone else tried this service?

I got my Innov8 from Mobile phones direct and they ARE part of Carphone Warehouse. With regards to the dust problem, i got dust in my within days of getting it, took it to CPW (who also had to repair my lens cover) and got it cleaned out but just to be safe i also carried out a little repair myself, all i done was slide the phone open (as if making a call) and on the back of the screen just behind the cover there is a small hole, cover this with a small piece of sellotape, so far my phone has been ok.

No sorry, no further info. My phone went away for the dust problem, the service person I reported the problem to asked if I was happy with the phone, I mentioned the dust issue and I at times was a bit disappointed with the battery life.
A new battery turned up in the post this morning.
I must admit since the phone has come back the 2 days I have been using it I have hammered it battery wise and it currently is a revelation, rarely used to get 24 hours out of it but 2 days so far and the battery meter has just lost the upper most bar.
i sent mine back , it took 4 days for samsung to send me the envelope to mail back and 7 days for the phone to be returned from the day i posted.they have cleaned it but the hole at the back remains there + they changed the battery.
i have found now that he camera lense shutter sticks and wont move then all of a sudden presto like magic it pops open.
all in all im personally taking it back to CPW to get a new one as there's no doubt in my mind the very early releases of this phone are utter garb.
I'm getting terrible dust under my screen and called them to get them to look at it and get it removed. I've received the envelope and things to send it back but they want proof of purchase.
I bought mine second hand (by like 1 month) off eBay so don't have the original one, does this mean I can't get it fixed? Its really starting to annoy me and shouldn't be happening on a device of this expense.
Can they go from date of manufacture or the serial number? Obviously it's not more than 12 months old as I don't think they've been out that long have they?
well nr a month after getting my phone back and the dust is back with vengence , far worse than before !!.i even took the time to cover the little hole at the back of the LCD screen with some tape so that cant be the problem.
i will be returning the phone and requesting a new one for sure.

I've got exactly the same problem, I've had mine back about a month and the dust is far worse, it's covering the whole screen now whereas before I had it just in the upper right corner.
I'll be calling Samsung again to send it off for repair and as soon as I get it back I'll be flogging it for another one. This phone is great for its features, but dust in the screen? Come on, that's just stupidly flawed.
i went in to CPW and the informed me that they will not exchange thje phone until it has been repaired 3 times !.pathetic isnt the word.
Well I've just got mine back for the 2nd time and I'm not convinced that it won't happen again. There's still a noticeable hole at the back of the screen when you slide it up that I think may be the problem.
I really like this phone though, yeah, it's big and buggy but it has an excellent camera, good music player, GPS and has a 3.5mm jack which is a must for me.
I can't believe they've got a problem with bloody DUST though, it's pathetic!
I had this problem,
The Carphonewarehouse took my phone in for repair.
With the title - Screen replacement.
That what they did, replaced the screen. There was still dust on the bottom side of the plastic case over the screen. Rubbish repair!
I contacted Samsung; they said they would repair it. Pre paid bag came through took about 4 days.
I got it back in the exact same condition with a repair slip saying all work has been completed.
So Ill be on the blower tomorrow to sort it out properly
In the mean time, any advice to get it properly sorted out?
Cheers, Craig.
Usually if your phone is collecting dust underneath the lens it means that the lens was not installed perfectly and there is some kind of small gap where the double sided tape fits connecting the lens to the faceplate. We have rarely also seen a small defect in the faceplate that has caused this but not normally. You can find replacement Blackjack 2, SGH-I617 parts including the window lens glass
i got mine back from a 2nd time repair only to find the video slider is not working.
it looks like its been wrongly put back together and you cant select video or gallery.
i phoned them up and its another jiffi bag time for returns.absolute joke this.how the hell can you make a phone and not test to make 100% sure dust cant get inside.
considering most people carry thier phone in thier pocket's were , , YES dust/fluff can gather , its plain old madness.
i've a good mind just to use the returns bag as a cover then i know it wont get dust inside the phone !!!!!!.
Sent mine back today for the dust under the screen and a sticky lens shutter, will wait and see if it works properly when it comes back.
