Have you tried Agile Messenger www.agilemobile.com ?
go to http://europe.nokia.com/A4491268
download Windows Live for Nokia S60
it's working on my N80.. which is S60 3rd edition
so i suppose it will work on n85.. n96.. etc
when you are on symbian.. you're better to use symbians apps.. (instead a java one)
this app will be integrated with your phone internal menu..
new tab in contact.. for your contacts from windows live..
new tab in email.. for your emails from windows live
Agile Messenger.. will never do something like that..
they wont let you download it! and it doesnt come up in my menu
try www.fring.com works a treat 😉

if the link isn't available in "Download!".. it's because your country isn't in their list..
i'm from Canada.. and my country isn't there.. however we can easly find it on google.. look for "Windows Live for symbian"... I found this link: http://gallery.mobile9.com/f/51560/
eBuddy is Java but very good.
go to get.ebuddy.com on your phone

i don't understand why you want to use a java apps... when you can use symbian apps..
it's like using web messenger (tru internet explorer) when you can install the full application.. which is compiled in X86 or 64bits (depend of you OS)..
Symbians apps is compiled for symbian OS.. nothing more..
Java apps need java runtime (which is already installed in your phone..) but it's still an additional layer..
