I have been trying to download the new Opera browser for the P800 from my Apple G4 powerbook. I tried it first on Opera's website and then later on SE's site. IT'S NOT WORKING IT SEEMS! When clicking on the download link, another page opens with all kinds of weird symbols and letters! But NO download!
Anyone else had the same problems? Is it simply not possible to download that software if you have a Mac? 😞
Opera browser & Mac!?
Just control-click (and hold) on the .SIS file and choose 'Download link to disk'
Sorry but that doesn't work, thanks anyway!
Wait for the download to finish (see status bar to confirm the download is finished). The window will be full with all kinds of jibberish.
Save the file. It will be saved as a Text file (with a .txt ending the file name).
Double click on the .txt file to open in TexEdit.
From the File Menu, choose "Save as", edit the file name by removing the ".txt" and replacing it with ".sis"
Save. A window will appear asking you whether or not to append/attach the ".txt" to the file name. Choose "Don't append".
The file will now appear as "Opera.sis" and the icon will look generic instead of the typical text icon.
You may now transfer this to your P800.
Good luck.
Thank you, that worked!
Now, do I have to change any of the settings on my internet accounts in order to get the opera to work or to become the default browser?
ulsen,
No need to change any of the internet settings to use Opera.
You may change the Application Shortcut from the built-in Internet app to Opera :
Go to Applications>View>Preferences
Click on the Internet icon, from the drop-down menu choose Opera
Enjoy Opera.
