In an All About Symbian exclusive, I present part 1 of my two part review of Samsung's brand new S60 3rd Edition FP2-powered i7110. An OLED-screened candy bar, it's incredibly well built and spoilt only by a silly video bug and a strange control key design. In this, part 1, I look at its hardware. In part 2, I'll go through its software and present my overall opinion of this latest device.

Atleast this phone has the OMAP2430 feature PowerVR MBX lite somewhat an upgrade to the recent Nokia's....
When does Samsung get added to the site headline, "All About Symbian - Nokia (S60) and Sony Ericsson (UIQ) smartphones unwrapped"?
(Yup, I'm pretty biased towards Samsung)
I've been nagging Rafe to change the site's tag line for MONTHS.
RAAAFFFFFEEEEEEE!!!?? FX: waits patiently for Rafe to get back from Nokia World.....
I think Steve's been a tad harsh about the optical mouse - the more you use that, the more you end up loving it (and the more accurate you get, even without changing it's sensitivity options).
Yes, the key cluster on this phone does seem a little cramped to start with, but as with so many of the (horrible) key clusters on N-series devices at the moment, you get used to it pretty quickly.
I think that (software issues resolved) Samsung have another killer handset here!
Lack of access to Nokia's software would be irritiating.
Samsung need to step up a gear and either licence access to Ovi (etc), or develop their own offerings.
- As we've seen S40 is becoming very capable so the main points for difference (from most users perspective) are multi tasking and after market applications.
Steve, in the 2nd photo comparison of yours, the i7110 pic seems clearer to me than the n82 one. Am curious to know why you think that the n82 "wins by a small margin"
I think the 7110 wins in the second picture as well...
Re. the lack of compatibility with Nokia apps -- I presume that the phone can be hacked to disable certificate control, just like standard Nokias. In which case I'd be guessing those lovely Nokia apps will install just fine. Anyone able to confirm this?
nokia apps and services (like sports tracker, ovi, conversations, nokia maps, etc) dont install on these samsung devices because nokia writes the apps to check for the phone model upon installation. So its not samsung's fault, nor can hacking the device make these apps install. It all has to do with nokia updating these apps to allow them to install on that phone model. So no i dont think hacking will work.
These apps and services is the main reason why i have a hard time leaving nokia Nseries phones, even though some great hardware from samsung has come out lately.
LOL ..... I really really like the original stylish theme (first screenshots) much more than your yellow (sooooooo 2008) sunrise theme ... sorry! 😃
When will/Or is this phone be released? I've heard it has but can't find anything on eBay or any other sites.
"................video capture wasn't as good..........."
Strange, and in the review gsmarena.com videorecording i7110 is named by EXCELLENT
