Migrating from Palm Treo 650 to E71

Hi

I have ordered a Nokia E71.

I have been using a PalmTreo 650 for the last 3 years but this has now come to the end of it's life.
Can someone explain how I can export all of appointments and contacts from Palm desktop to the Nokia?
I don't use Outlook just Outlook Express and would hate to have to export each contact as a VCF file as there are a few hundred! Surely there must be an easier way?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi there!

The easy way to do this is to install Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express) if you have it, Hotsync the Treo to Outlook, then use the Nokia desktop application to sync the E71.

If you don't have this, you may be able to Bluetooth send the information from the Treo to the E71. I have sent some information from my Treo 680 to the E71 and it worked, but as like you I have several hundred contacts, I used Outlook. I'm thinking you might have the ability to send a whole category at once...

I'm not too big a fan of Outlook, but as a means of transferring information from PDA to PDA, it has worked fairly well...

Good luck with it though!

One possible alternative would be to use something like Goosync to copy all your pim data to a Google account and then from Google to your E71.

Chucky Egg made a post in this forum recently about syncing the E71 with Google. That might give you some clues.

There was also a bit on the front page of AAS a few weeks ago about free syncml web services that you can use to back up and restore S60 phones. If you can find one of those services that also supports PalmOS you could try that.

Yeah, that could work.

Google and GooSync are free, which is nice, but there are other SyncML services you could use instead.

Install a client on the Treo to sync your calendar to Google, then setup a free GooSync account and install the settings on the E71 to sync back down.

One thing I miss from Windows Mobile (that's what the Treo runs I think) is the Free, Busy, Tentative, Out Of Office settings - you'll lose all that when you move to S60.

If you also want to sync other PIM data (notes, contacts, tasks) you might need the Pro (commercial) GooSync account, but I expect that works just as well.

I migrated from a treo 680 and it's certainly easier to install an old copy of outlook for transfer purposes. I have a 2002 version I only ever use for this. You will find calender on s60 very disappointing after your treo - I couldn't believe how bad the pim functions, especially calender and email were on s60 after reading about the 'ultimate email devicethat s60 was!

Try Handy Calendar or Papyrus (now renamed SBSH Calendar I think) and Profimail. They are pretty much the best in their classes for S60.
