Why is there a difference??

I asked this question in a Skyfire news article last week and no-one replied so i thought I'd ask here....

Why is Samsungs S60 3.2 FP2 different to Nokia's? I ask because i cant get the Skyfire beta to load - certificates not being recognised etc...

isnt the S60 software platform able to be a consistent environment irrespective of device and architecture?

I've recently come to the S60 party with an i8510 and have come from years of WinMo devices where i had a number of differing manufacturers and never experienced this type of problem - even uninstalling/de-registering and swapping devices has never given a problem.

Why does the manufacturer make a difference?

I also tried installing skyfire and wondered the same thing, Also why Coreplayer crashes on the i8510.

ive emailed skyfire about this.
its very annoying.
Maybe if the phone was hacked we could get a Nokia root certificate on there to compensate for lazy software developers who for no reason lock out Samsung i8510 users.

i'm glad its not just me then!!

also, good move e-mailing the Skyfire people - hopefully get a favourable response!

but does his mean that any application that says it works on the N96 should work on the Samsung? and if not, is it because of the different manufacturer's build of the OS?

The manufacturers build of the OS is the same, the only difference has a Samsung root certificate as opposed to Nokia

Got a reply today

Hello,
We apologize for the inconvenience but your Samsung phone is not a supported phone. We are aware of the issues running Skyfire on the Samsung Symbian phones and we are investigating the root cause but at this time we do not have a fix for you. We hope to provide you with a fix in a future release.
Thanks,

No help whatsoever

ha! shocking!

this does make me wonder more on the differences on the OS/Manufacturer situation. Surely, if the OS indeed WAS the same on Nok's as it is on Samsung's this should be a minor glitch? am i missing something here....?
