Google Maps, their native client for S60 3rd Edition is now out, as of an hour or so ago, taking us up to v2.03(0). It's bigger now, at 1.3MB. The main change is the addition of StreetView, for selected locations (mainly in the USA). I'll put up some screenshots shortly. To get Google Maps, go to m.google.com on your favourite S60 phone etc.

Bah crappy java app. I rather use "native" program Nokia maps.
No, this is native S60. Please keep up, Google Maps has been S60 for over a year!
So, does this include Wi-Fi-positioning? It seems to show the list of available networks on the Help/Info-screen.
That might be used to build Google's WiFi-location-database (like skyhook) to use it with Google Gears on notebooks - that's how they built their cell phone tower database some months ago (they just combined the cell id data with GPS information reported back by all capable phones).
Thanks for the heads up, Steve. I've been eagerly waiting for this ever since the java version surfaced back in September. It isn't so much for the street views, but for GPS-based transit directions. I just installed it on my E71 -- it works and is quite snappy. Sadly, it does not use the large system fonts I installed, so it may not be as useful I had hoped. I installed it too quickly so I don't remember whether 2.2 has this issue too. Don't you just love it that there's a gotcha with everything...
The location seems more accurate, it's certainly not using the local cell sites like 2.02, have they incorporated something like Skyhook for non-GPS phones?
There's also a new "feature" that's not in the changelog. It now supports the new 5800 touch interface. The usability problems in the previous version are all gone. They only need to fix now the "not compatible" message when installing as it's now fully working.
Streetview is pretty cool .. skyhook works ok in the middle of urban areas .. but you need real GPS any place else ..
I still think Nokia Maps is better - more self contained. Anything that doesn't require exorbitant data charges is better.
😊
An unrevealed feature was included in this release.
It support 5800XM right now!
new zealand also has street view enabled 😉
Woah! Did anyone notice that Google Maps can now read your favorites locations from Nokia Maps?
This is really cool. When I look at Google Maps all of my waypoints from Nokia Maps were available complete with descriptions
I do not know about you but I use both services for different things. Having them communicate with each other is really useful. Kudoes to Google!
Lark out
Ahem. v2.2 has been doing this for the last 6 months 8-)
