I recently purchased another n95 from ebay. It was used for about $100. Would a fake n95 come with a remote? Mine looks almost exatly like this one but instead of plum its sand color.http://flickr.com/photos/tnkgrl/sets/72157600047780205/
Is my N95 fake?
mine is sand colour and that does not mean its not genuine. one way of verifying is try to press *#0000# on the standby screen. if something appears, then its genuine otherwise its a pale copy from china.
PS : fake n95 are touchscreen. is your a touchscreen?
no its not touch screen it looks like the one in the link.
*#0000#
post the result here .. if you get no result then it is a fake.
Good luck! 😊
Some of the later fakes come up with a firmware number after putting in the 0000 code, so thats not much of an indicator.
Its definitely NOT fake.. can tell pretty much instantly.
Fake ones tend to use the hacked touch OS (all from China).. Everything about the phone looks legitimate to me given the icons, functionality and all..
I'll post the results soon after i get the phone.

$100 is EXTREMELY cheap. Too cheap.
Would a fake n95 come with a remote? I have no idea, but a genuine n95 certainly doesn't.

I hope by "remote" he means the usual handsfree cable with the multimedia buttons on it.

Yeah that handsfree cable remote comes with all N95 it allows you to change tracks and volume.
the hands free remote. All the fake ones I've seen hasn't had a remote. I'm just wondering if any of you has experienced it. Oh by the way it is $100 used and he said it needs a software reset.
The easiest thing to test and see if this is fake is to install a standard S60-3 app on it.. like Mail4exchange or something from Nokia. This will verify the phone (it checks for the certificate) and if it works, then its genuine.
As I said before.. the fakes use the hacked Motorola Linux based OS.. so it wont work with S60 software
Just to note, not all N95-1 clones are touch screen. many of the later clones of this handset are indeed identical to the Genuine Nokia handset, with a firmware being show as Bart correctly states, however, this firmware is usually of an older Nokia handset, uaually an N73.
Also, without the phone being switched on, the latter clones are almost impossible to tell apart from the real deal. When switched on however, it becomes clear, as the menu structure, although hacked to look exactly the same as the Genuine S60 device, including NGage icon etc, the manu layout has subtle differences that can be spotted with the trained eye.
The photos from tnkgrl posted in your thread starting post are 100% genuine.
Let us know what *#0000# shows when you receive the handset.
Heres a link to the phone.

I haven't received the phone yet. I'll post pictures when I get it. If I don't post then i know for sure its condition.
Looking at the Ebay write up, a few things occur to me:-
1. It looks genuine, as do the leads.
I notice that in the box that there is one of those gold stick-on signal boosters like this one:-
http://www.gadgetsuk.com/Mobile-phone-signal-booster-p-16851.html
Maybe the vendor had a problem getting a 3G signal (not an uncommon problem in North America).
2. That the N95 would appear to be the N95-NAM (North American) version which supports Quadband GSM, 3G 850/1900 for North America and not Quadband GSM, 3G 2100 for Europe and the rest etc.
3. The description states a 1-2 Megapixels camera, whilst the N95's have a 5 mp camera (could be an error on vendors part).
4. If it is the N95 NAM then it will be missing the camera shutter but have the larger Nokia 1200mAH BL-6F battery.
5. When you receive the phone you should enter *#0000# and make a note of the firmware version information. You should also look under the battery and make a note of the product code on the white sticker as you can input this on the Nokia website to ascertain if you have the latest firmware.

6. If you are resident outside of North America I believe the 3G feature will not work and you should not be tempted to change the product code of the phone in an attempt to make it work.
Please let us know how you get on.
Good luck.
Very difficult to say from this photo, but the box used is suspect, so too is the additional charger, which I have seen bundled with clones. I hope Im wrong.
Let us know how you get on.
It's genuine, but theirs a problem. When i turn it on it shows nokia but the backlite is not lit and it just stayon nokia no hands no greeting noise and it can't get off that screen and i also need to plug in the charger for it to work. I noticed when i pull the battery out while on it flashes the backlites of the phone and the keys for a half a second with the white background and the blue nokia. Their is no greeting noise either. Do you think its a battery problem? Any suggestions?
You could try a hard reset/format. Plug the phone in with charger and make sure the phone is turned off, now hold down the green call button, the * key and the number 3 key all at the same time. Keep them held down while turning the phone on and don't let them go until the phone asks you to select your language. If you don't get to the language screen you might have to take it in to a service centre for a reflash.

Maybe this is what the seller meant when he/she said it seeded a software reset. If worse comes to worst, hold down 3, * and the green button while turning the phone on to do a hard reset. I suppose since you've not been able to turn it on or put anything on it then you've not got a lot to lose by doing it. I've never done it with my phone but I hear it asks for the PIN number when you do it. Here's hoping it was never changed by the previous user.
thats not working either. I can't even charge the battery. I hold it down and it turns on and has the nokia words on it with no backlite.

Ahh nevermind, it was worth a shot. I wonder if this recent thread might be of use to you instead. It would cost $25 ($40 if you live outside the states) but a working N95 for up to $140 is still a very good price IMO.
Actually.. I've been able to beat your deal.. heheh
I scored a Nokia N95 from (a major bank's) rewards deals for 13,000 points (or the equivalent to redeeming a $50 USD type voucher).. heehhe
Giving that unit to my dad for his Xmas pressy. 😊
