The new PC suite version can be downloaded from nokia.com

One of the mods might like to make this a news item for the front page of the site, so that it can be ignored and then 20 new threads about a new version of PC suite can appear in here.

Cheers

Differences: no idea, except the download page now says that the requirements are:

Software and Hardware Requirements
To install and run PC Suite for the Nokia 7650 Phone, you need:
A compatible PC running Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2, or Windows XP.
At least 110 MB of free disk space.

This is the 7650 version of PC suite, hence the posting in the 7650 forum. I don't know if it is compatible with the 3650, but looking at the nokia site, there seems to be a different version for that phone.

Nokia produce a different version for each phone and generally enable new bugs with each version. 😉

At least we may be able to all run the software on whatever platform we have (sorry Mac users, no version for you!).

I read in a previous topic that this version would be compatable with a greater number of Bluetooth adapters, it would be interesting to find out if this is true.

As I am still an IR man, I will not be able to test it myself. Anyone?

I love the way it has only taken Nokia 7 months from the release of the Nokia 7650 for it to get proper Windows XP support!! the words "on the ball" and "Nokia" don't ever appear in the same sentence!!

Well, the older version of Nokia PC Suite for 7650 I got to work on Win2K with my 3650, so hopefully this new version will work with 3650 until they release a specific version for the 3650.

this is atrocious, one step forward, two steps back, it now at least loads on my system ( WIndows XP SP-1 ), but guess what...it cannot backup!, Really, whoever Nokia has got to write this program for them should be sacked, after this amount of time, they should have at least got a semi-working product out of the door. I cannot believe it, I really cannot. So will it be another Six months before they get another "working" version out?

Works fine for me with XP (xp pro sp1)via Mitsumi Bluetooth and Infrared, but then so did the old version. It is most likely that your phone is not connecting to your PC correctly than a fault of the software

No, I have had it working succesfully ( 1 in 5 attempts ) in the past under Windows XP, when I upgraded to SP-1 it stopped working, then when I loaded this new version this afternoon, it worked first time, but has not worked since, when backing up it just stops responding. This is badly written software full stop.

i doubt it's my phone that won't connect if i can get the other stuff to work, like RS60 and modem connection, i get the mrouter connecting okay and then just like before, it says i'm connecting for the first time and won't let me click OKAY, damn nokia !!!!

are you using software firewalls on your PC ?, when I connect my firewall goes mad asking for permission to connect to this and that, If I don't give it permission it won't work correctly, just a thought, also did you uninstall the old version first ?, also don't bother installing the Nokia SDK thing cause you don't need it.

Installed OK (Well, there was a command line error, wiich I ignored, and the same Application Switch/Retry box, which opened the start menu), but it settled down and looked OK.

Opened MRouter to select the Mitsumi Blueooth adapter and the LAN port was seen as an infrared port (which I do not have) and produced an error.
Other ports selected (in turn) (BT Serial on 6, BT DUN on 7, BT LAN on 8 and BT Fax on 9), and started the PC Suite to see "No Phone connected)

Did you do anything different ?
XP Home SP1

I havent posted this before, but my Nokia Suite works fine with Windows XP. No problems at all. Basically all I did was install it and everything is a-ok. But glad to hear that the new version works fine with XP. 😃 Cheers

My version seen ok. Even on my old win2k and new machine on xp. Anyway thanks for keeping us update.

right, I have spent countless hours trying to sort this PC Suite out, Nokia should be sacking anyone who has anything to do with releasing this glorified alpha product into the wilds. I have got it working on Windows XP SP-1, it can do everything now, image transfer, data import, synchronise, but it will not backup at all, which is the most bizarre thing, it just puts a dialog box up with "PC Suite Backup Progress" and then says Closing Programs... underneath that, and thats as far as it gets, there are no strange progs running on the phone or pc, anyone got any ideas what the f*** is happening here?

after spendin an hour, uninstalling, deleting directories ( it puts loads of files in %systemroot%/%sysytem32% ) and deleting registry entries, I have finally got pc suite working!! yeah.... But do you realise that PC Suite has changed the way it backs up your phone and this is not compatible with the previous PC Suites 1.1 and lower, instead of replicating the Nokia 7650 directory instructure ( i.e. C:\Nokia, C:\System etc ) it now backs all files up as .dat files so you get 1500+ numbered files, this means several after market utilities ( SMS Journal etc ) can't use this new backup!! What will they think of next!!! what an elm street!

Has anyone noticed anything new on the new version of PC Suite, apart from the new backup directory structure (which was implemented in 1.1 already), and Nokia's obvious attempt to intentionally annoy SPaCe by making his plainly very stable PC totally unusable ?
<wink>

hehe snorbaard!, I think Nokia has got it in for me!! Although saying that my PC is very stable apart from this flaky app!! I did'nt know the directory structure had changed in v1.1 coz I could never get it working!! ha!!

Can't get PC Suite 1.2 to backup (winXP sp1). It connects, detects the phone, I can transfer images etc.

Whenever I try to backup it starts ok, then within about a minute comes up with (on the phone):

App. closed
AppArcServerTh
read
BackupSrv 0

The PC Suite says an unknown error has occurred and the phone is about to go offline. Yet as soon as I 'ok' the error on the pc, it picks up the phone and goes online again.

Using the windows IR thing I can transfer files and whatever, also have tried the pc file browser and that works fine too.

I doubt it's the phone or the IR adapter, as it works fine on my win2k machine at work (pc suite 1.1).

I might try reinstalling everything or I might see if I can use this to get a free firmware upgrade from a NSC.

I Use Nokia PC Suite 1.1.0 on Windows 98 SE

I use a 3com Bluetooth USB adaptor.

Everything works perfectly

Is there any advantage to upgrade to Version 1.2.0 ?

Doc, looks exactly the same as the previous version.

I noticed tho I now have a nokia connection manager icon in the taskbar, the only thing I did different was install the connectivity sdk.. is that part of that?

PS the connection manager crashes when I click 'apply' after selecting my phone, but if I click ok it doesn't??

After having backing up problems in the past, my recomment#dation is to completly remove the previous version of PC Suite and the C:\Nokia\backup folder before installing the new version.

When I have had backups fail deleting the old backup and starting a fresh with a blank canvus and install has rectified the problems.

Also I would recommend that you ensure the the phone has no apps running other than standard system ones. My Backup has frozen several times when applications on the phone are holding files open. Restart the phone before backup may help to clear file locks.

Just some ideas to hopfully easy the backup pain.

Bob

All is OK but mROUTER. That part is BAD BAD BAD. It brakes BT connections.
To overcome that problem use older version ( from PC Suite 1.1 )
