Getting the GPS to work

Hi

I am hoping someone can help me get the gps working.

I am not trying to use it as a sat-nav and I'm not trying to install any software that wasn't already on it out of the box - i simply want to be able to go into Menu > Tools > GPS Data > Position and be told latitude, longitude, altitude etc.

I continually get a "No Connection" next to latitude.

I have "integrated gps" selected in the positioning methods settings screen

I have in positioning server setting screen the following: Positioning server use : "Auto. in home netw" Access Point : "Must be defined" Server Address: "h-slp.mnc033.mcc23..."

The only thing I can think of is the access point - the options it gives me for that are Orange GPRS WAP, Orange Internet, and Orange MMS although I do not see why it would need to connect to the internet just to tell me my location which it should be able to find out by receiving the signal from the satellites.

Can anyone help? Am I missing something obvious? the pdf manual I looked at was less than helpful

Have you tried leaving it with the "no connection" screen on? Sometimes it takes an age to make the initial connection to the gps satellites. Obviously it might not work indoors aswell. That's all I can think of I'm afraid!

by "takes an age" do you mean wait 2-3 mins on that screen or go away and come back in half an hour and see if it's done anything 😊

hey yea i got the same problem and dont have a clue why that is, am afraid to get sat nav now as it just might not work

Have you set up GPS+ in Menu > Applications > GPS+.

This is assisted GPS and uses a data connection to help the GPS system connect quicker. If your on an unlimited data plan you can set this to download every 7 days or so, if not you can do it manually each time (Click the options button in the main GPS+ screen).

The data generally last's for around 7 days.

Oh yeah, it helps if your outdoors, or next to a window too !

Good luck.

As far as I am aware, yes you can use wi-fi for the download.

Dont quote me on this but 50-100k seems to be the norm.

Not sure, I always use GPS+ and set it to automatically download the data every seven days and it works fine. It takes no more than 30secs to get a signal lock.

HTH, please let us know if you have any success it will assist others reading this thread. 😊

:icon14:hey guys the way to get ur gps to work is to go out into the open and use it, the gps+ plus also helps (and only downloads about 50kb) but once u manage to get the connection once u shud be fine, not sure if the gps data thing works, as ther has been no need to use it since i got sat nav to work

I just got my phone back from the Carphone Warehouse after the charging port broke, on a plus side they sorted the bluetooth problem where it deleted my contacts, but now it wont connect to GPS no matter what I try :?
