3G Speed variation in Nokia devices

Using AT&T's 3G service below are average download speeds at the same location & SIM card on different devices using dslreport.com mobile speed test using the Opera Mobile browser:

1. N95 8GB- 150 kbps
2. HTC Fuze- 400 kbps
3. Pantech Matrix- 650 kbps
4. Samsung Eternity- 650 kbps
5. Nokia 6500- 680-700 kbps

Perhaps I am missing a setting somewhere that is hindering the performance on the N95? I have read multiple theards users reporting incredible speeds upto 1000 kbps and majority of those users ran their test using the N95...

What is the deal with this?

The better question to ask is what version of the N95 8GB are you using? The N95-2 or the N95-4?

The reason is because AT&T runs on the stupid non-standard bandwidth of 850Mhz (yes, as does stupid Telstra here in Australia - Non standard because everywhere else in the world uses 900/1800/2100Mhz Frequencies). The N95-2 is not capable of 3G at this frequency whereas the N95-4 is. When it is not capable of 3G/HSDPA modes in this frequency, it will drop down to much slower speeds of GPRS (which is like around 150kbits as you have mentioned).

This is very much the same as the N95-1 and N95-3 differences as well.. (both N95 "classics" - but have different bandwidth capabilities).

sounds like the OP maybe in an area where there is 850mhz 3G coverage. I thought for a moment that the 6500 figure must be wrong but then I realized it does support 850mhz for 3G.
