Why is a hedgehog called a hedgehog?
It doesn't look like a pig and I only ever see them on the road, never in hedges.
I wonder why?

Viewed from a certain angle it's snout could help it to resemble a tiny pig!! And it has a sort of thorny hedge along it's back.You do have to be poeticly minded (or drunk/stoned/tired) to reach that conclusion though. It's sad to say that at three in the afternoon i'm all three! But it is weekend 
prob from ancient english hedge kinda means inbetween area (like zone between fields)...hog creature which likes and lives close to the ground.
