However the communicator doesn't seem to want to do anything with it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Try copying it to your 9210 without converting it. (Select file, drag with Right mouse button and choose Copy Only).

thanks for the plug, but 'tone' ringtones tend to be a lot louder than wav ones... User posted image

anyhow, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between using 'copy' and 'copy and convert' /

is it just me doing something very wrong somewhere?
