I have had an e71-2 for a few months now and within the last two weeks it has started acting up on me. I have all my apps and themes stored on my 4GB micro sd card and within the last two weeks my memory card has been corrupted at least 2 times a week. I will be using the phone, whether it be using an app or just scrolling around when all of a sudden my theme changes to the default, then all my apps disappear. I try removing the card and putting it back in and it does nothing. So then I went into the memory manager program and the card name comes up with some crazy characters and all the data is corrupted. I am getting tired of formatting the card and reinstalling everything. Does anyone know what is causing this or knows of a solution to this problem????

I'm using an 8gb card and that works like a charm, perhaps its a 4gb card issue??
My two theories : A rogue app on your card, especially since its changing the label of the device.
Could also be the fact that your card is worn out (physically) from all the constant writing/reading to it since all your stuff is stored there.
Hi,
I am experiencing the same problem : E71, with a 4 Gb card.
It started to be vert unstable when I installed Google search on top of Gmail mobile.
Then this morning, all of a sudden, everything disappeared.
My request for your help : is there a *free* software/process that I can use to restore the card content? I have stored there 18 months of SMS...
Thanks in advance for your help and really really waiting desperately for your responses!...
I'm using an E51, so I'm not sure if I'm facing the same issue as you. Although I've experienced my Micro SDHC cards becoming corrupted (sometimes unreadable, sometimes write-only) even though I'd used the "Remove memory card" menu option.
If it's a random problem like mine, then I'm not sure what you can do to protect against it. However, my solution doesn't solve the problem, but it does give you a certain amount of robustness.
I keep a folder on my laptop, holding all the files I want to have on my memory card, and when I plug my memory card into my laptop, I synchronise my card with that folder (there are Windows GUI apps to do this, or if you want to write scripts, you can use "robocopy" for Windows and RSync for Linux).
Then, whenever your card becomes corrupt, you can simply format the card on your handset, and then re-sync all the contents from your computer. I know you are tired of reformatting, although if the sync suggestion saves you having to remember everything you had wanted to have on the card. Sorry can't suggest more.
Only other thing I can think of is that your memory card is faulty, could you try another?
I had the same problem with my 4GB HCSD card and Nokia E51. After a short research I found, that not all of the memory cards are the same: http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/speed_class/, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card#Speeds (just in case, if you want to know what I'm talking about). So if your card is slower or even faster than the device probably you will be facing a problem. Also even if the memory card is class 6 for example (which guarantees speed of at least 6 Mb/s) it can be faster as some memory cards, class 6, reach speeds as fast as 45 Mb/s.
On the other hand, most of the E51 users experiencing problems are using 4 GB memory cards as I do. Actually I didn't find anybody having problems with 2 or 8 GB cards, so it may be some kind of device incompatibility. Hope that was helpfull.
P.S. My solution - I just bought 2 GB memory card. Everything is working fine.
Its dosen't matter how much memory card size inserted in your mobile. But the only thing is to check that applications which are not suitable for the memory card as soon as unistall the applications. And then try to format the memory card. And check it will work.
I was wondering , following this discussion : nobody mentioned the Brand ™ of the MemoryCards in use . There might be a difference between them in (dis)functioning .
Anyway a device that can operate "hc" - high capacity - Cards , should have no problem up to 32GB ....

Had exactly the same problem, there appear to be a number of different issues that can cause this. For me it was the SIM card (manufacturer design fault, hope you are still under warranty!).
Cause 1: SIM card test. Remove the phone SIM card, & see if the problem still occurs.
http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=topfaq&thread.id=119
Cause 2: Formatted with encrypted key.
Quick fix: Backup data on SD card to PC, then reformat SD card using PC, you lose data on the card but at least the problem goes away. Alternatively try the steps outlined in http://attahun.blogspot.com/2009/06/nokia-e71-problem-memory-card-corrupted.html
Cause 3: MicroSD defective. Try another card.
