Been messing around with playing videos obtained from the net, avi/divx files and was wondering if anyone has any tips or recommendations for applications to use to run these optimally.
So far i've not been too impressed with playback using the 'Smart Movie' and 'DivX' apps.
I'm finding that both players play files very jerkily, almost like frames are missing. They play perfectly when played on other devices / pc / dvd player. To be honest, it's not that noticeable on the phone unless theres fast moving scenes (when its enough to put u off watching something) , however when plugged into a TV, pretty much unwatchable. Smart Movie seems to perform better than the DivX player which seems to have major sync problems with any file (although can be corrected in settings).
I've used the Smart Movie app for PC that converts files and compresses them by changing resolution for specific devices (eg N96). This infact does resolve the jerkiness issue and on both Smart Movie and DivX players allows the file to run very smoothly, however you do lose image quality. Again, not that noticeable on the actual phone but when plugged into a TV, very noticeable (pixelation etc).
I've tried avi files of all sizes and seem to be getting the same results.
Maybe i'm just expecting too much, but i would have thought if the file is of perfect quality, then the phone/software should play it back that way.
I've got firmware 11.018, about to update - could this be the issue ?
Are there any other players available ?
Any tips/info would be appreciated.
