Probably a quick bug fix (in view of the numbers sold) to make darned sure that noone gets caught out by the 'nuisance' CurseSMS bug in S60 3.1, but N95 'classic' owners should try Nokia Software Update: v31.0.017 is available for unlocked devices in many countries.
Read on in the full article.
On a semi-related topic,
Have you heard when the update for the 5800XM might hit the street? Some already have it but they have used Phoenix to install it.
Does this mean that all 58 of my applications need to be re-installed? :con?
Is there a list of bug fixes? I've never had this "sms" error so there's no point in me updating and having to re-install ALL my apps! 😉
Yes, I would suggest not bothering with the update unless you've tech-literate enemies who want to see you nuisanced...... On the other hand, if you've been planning a clear-out of your phone anyway..... 8-)
gee wouldn't it be great to have the 95 running FP2 ?? 😉
oh .. that major selling point .. no app reinstalls .. no settings change .. just upgrade .. just like linux .. 😊
With providers starting to filter for curse-of-silence messages, the chances of annoying someone is pretty slim. Nokia's twopronged approach is pretty neat. I wished though they'd release a small app in their downloads section to fix a cursed phone without needing a full factory reset.

"Drat, Dr. Evil. We failed again..."
Isn't this release just to resolve the "English" menu issue appearing with other languages in v30.0.014?
beside the hacking issue the firmware seems to be alright; browser seems somewhat snappier together with the flash content (although no flashlite 3.1), startup time until it asks for pin code (without anything installed and active standby disabled) is around 15 seconds and RAM at startup is around 28.2MB
BUT: still this crippled menu!!!!!!! i dont get it, what use does it have to extend the top bar??
about the camera: i took a couple of shots and although the quality of the colors, noise etc. is the same, there are less blurred pictures (maybe they improved the shutter speed)
good news: with energy profiler i reached 0.04W in offline mode, without memory card (with v30 i could tops reach 0.05W), that's quite a difference considering that it's a fifth less energy consumption
Just did mine and again I'm wondering when Nokia will ever fix a couple of anoyances I have:

Why isn't Luxembourg listed in any of the country lists still? It's only one of the founding countries of the EU!

Why isn't the default month/year set to when the firmware is released? What's the point of having it start at 01/01/2008!
Still, at least Nokia is still updating this classic phone - should keep me going until the N97 arrives.
Found there's new firmware for my E65 as well. Old version was 2.0633.65.01 and the new one is 4.0633.74.00
Have updated and found little improvement in terms of menu speed. Thats all. Nothing else new or noticeable.
