E-mails on the P800!! @#$$%*$#

17 replies · 3,566 views · Started 23 February 2003

I have a P800, my mobile carrier is T-Mobile in the US. Besides my regular calling plan I also have internet2, which I can browse fine on either the preinstalled browser or the Opera browser I installed myself.
HOWEVER my e-mail account is another problem. I have Earthlink as my ISP and also use .Mac for e-mails. I can receice e-mails fine on both accounts, BUT the P800 will not SEND e-mails!! I have tried all kinds of different settings given to me by tec. support people at T-mobile's all 3 levels of support, Earthlink and I am still waiting to hear back from SE.
I even tried to delete the e-mail accounts and start all over with new settings, but ALAS, no luck!! I just get all kinds of error messages.
Can anyone help me fix this before I go crazy?? There must be someone out there with similar problems. It's just beyond me why it will not work.
Should I just try and send & receive e-mails using DIAL UP, can the P800 do that??
I hope to hear from someone soon!!

earthlink doesnt like it when it handles mail from other domains... have you tried earthlink receive settings and .mac send settings?

Yes I have tried both; I can not send e-mails from my .mac account either!

same with me am w/ t-mobile in the us and have internet 2 and can't send emails + can't even access aim instant messages, gives me a 771 error?, go figure. i used to be able to in via t68i !

Have you tried to use the SMTP-Server from T-mobile? they have to give you an smtp Server adress! Otherwise it will not work because the most e-mail accounts do not allowed e-mails from other networks (spam issue). It should be something like smtp.tmobile.com or mail.tmobile.com or something like this (only example this two adress will not work, just to show you what you will need. Ask tmobile for the smtp adress!)

frei is right. I used to have that problem. But my carrier from the philippines (Globe) will not give it away. But eventually found the smpt of my carrier from a forum member living in the Philippines.

No sorry. no idea about your AIM. But as Instant Message client you can try TipicME for P800. For ICQ, MSN, Yahoo IM, AIM. go to www.tipic.com you have to register (for free) to use the server and to download the software.

Baby do I have great news for you.!!

I'm also in New york and am a t-mobile victim. I had the same problem and then just by chance i found a solution.

There are 2 ways of sending Emails directly from your phone without logging on first.
1/ Through SMS if oyu're not sending attachments. On TO. you write 520. On the body of message you write. Email address(space)subject(space)(#sign)message. This will sem familiar since it's the way to do it on old phones.

NOW FOR TRUE EMAIL:

Go to messages and select MMS. attach pictures, documents or select a blank page and add text. On TO: select an Email address from your contacts or type one. Press send inmediatelly. Provided you have the right MMS settings a message will pop up first logging by itslef and then sending the email. Your email name or number will depend on your Tmobile acct. at Tmobile.com Tzones you can change your Adress from phone [email protected] to any name @Tmomail.net.

If there is another way I do not know it. I have send Emails through AOL but that's a different story.

Good luck

thanks frei it worked, but tell me from t-zones you have an option to sign in to AIM, but some how it hangs on to finaly display a gateway error message, can you get on Aim?
And unfortunatly i registrede to tipicme and this one doesn't not work as well. My luck

I have not tried AIM because I don't really use it, not even through my desktop. However, considering the amount of Tmobile phones that have AIM there has to be a way. probably the trick is to do it through Tzones rather than setting it up through aol. Just guessing though. If I get some extra time I'll try to set it up and i'll post whatever results I can get.

Hi everyone, I don't know if my problem is related to the others mentioned in this thread but i really need some help because my brain is beggining to melt with this prob.

I can receive my e-mails fine but i cannot send, the reason being that the phone tells me that the 'To', 'Cc' or 'Bcc' fields are invalid. I've triple checked the address that i used and it is right. Can anbody give me some answers!?

Thanks guys!

I have had simular problems.

If I picked up emails then sent on within a few minuets it would be ok.

But if I just sent an email with send now the I would get the TO: error

Then I put my user name and password in the auth SMTP bit and that sorted it.

Dont know if it would work for you

Well i set my account up with the SMTP authentication settings to beggin with, and now i've just double checked them and still no luck!

Thanks for your help though

One other thought.

Send an email to your ISP stating that you need to access your mailbox from a mobile device and what are the setting for sending emails via smtp outside of there system.

Can I say it another time:

Is allways the same:
incoming mail from your "e-mail adress" server (if you have [email protected] then it is pop.gmx.de
Outgoing mail from your "carrier" server (if you phone or surf with tmobile then it is something like smtp.tmobile.com)

Something strange happened, i didn't change any of the settings. Although i did sync the phone to my pc and now it works... very odd! none of the settings have changed! Thanks all for your help, hopefully it will keep on working! :-?
