N96 Time & Date

I have brand new N96. I have been using it for one month. Everything worked fine until I went back home to visit, and I put a different SIM card. It has affected to my date and time application. It won't let me to access to "TIME (Clock)" section. Phone gives me "System Error" message.
Also, when you go to Menu -> Tools -> Settings -> General, and Date and Time when I try open it, it won't open, it just says the same. Does any body know what is the problem. I have tried to set the Factory Settings, it won't fix it. Also update to new firmware, still no change. Is the anyway to reformat the phone and then install everything back like PC? Maybe that will change. Any suggestions?

As far as I know there is no way to format Phone Memory. You can however format Mass Memory by going Menu >Tools>File Manager>Mass Memory>Options>Format Mass Memory. It may even be somewhere else on your handset depending on Firmware variant

This will wipe lots of stuff though like Activation Codes and other important stuff that some apps need to run so use with caution

Don't know if this will even sort your problem so it is worth waiting for a more knowledgeable member to reply

I WILL NOT be held responsible for you doing this so use with caution

remove the new sim card and see if you can set time/date .. I'd switch off the automatic time update ..

if that works then you can switch automatic time update back on if required.

Good Luck!😊

Hello Guys!

Thank you for support. I figured out how to fix it. I went to google and typed N96 System error message. It took me to Nokia Support Discussions. Then I have tried "Hard Reset Mode" which is *#7370# dial
It has reseted the phone completely. I have backed up everything except my "Contacts" So, be careful if you have to do it. I lost all my contacts. But, I am happy that issue has been fixed. 😊

you can still format phone memory using *#7370#,
just that firmware upgrade no longer wipes it due to data presevation
