Nokia's having a productive 2009 so far on the firmware front. v300.34.56 is now available for some product codes (previous was v220.34.37). No idea on changes at this stage, comments welcome. And usual backup/sync precautions apply, the E51 does not have UDP.

I for one would be grateful if Nokia would release at least the major fixes of their firmware updates, as it's always quite a hassle to set up my phone again. As it is a large number change, does anyone have an idea whether it's worth upgrading from 220 ?
I find it interesting that Nokia confirmed the Curse of Silence exploit, said it's no big deal, then started releasing new firmwares for the affected devices. Seriously, we're getting firmware for devices that haven't been updated in a long time, with no new features added in. Suspect!

I hope there are updates, but not just the "silence" fix.
Quickdial like on the E66 and e71 would be welkome 😊
@matthew:. No, I don't think the two are THAT connected. Nokia has already said that only a tiny few update their firmware anyway, so this would hardly be a mass market fix. I suspect that 99% of their effort on this matter was in making sure all the major phone networks were already blocking malformed messages. Seemingly quick successfully, since noone's been affected.
Also, if your theory was true, where are the 'CoS' updates for the N82, E90, N95 8GB and so on? - all very popular devices.
Steve,
Excellent points! Let's see if the N82, N95-8GB and E90 get firmware updates soon. Since the N95 just got a firmware update (and after the CoS was announced...), the 8GB might not be far behind.
I share your optimism that the CoS is not a big deal to most Nokia users, I'm just trying to stir up a little paranoia. : )
I'm model code 0558765, and so far it's not available for my handset...
is this firmware hackable? can anyone confirm??
Per this thread, I updated my E51 yesterday. If you intend on using unsigned apps, DO NOT upgrade yet. I've tried most methods and none seem to work.
Of course it's unhackable. That's the main objective of all these recent updates.
With the Firmware upgrade will the BBC i-player and Vimio Live TV, which are meant to work on the E51, now work?
-Search Internet and My content as plugin in active standby
-My location works without GPS
-New porgrams in Insallations
So. Why would I want to hack my phone? What am I missing with an unhacked phone?
If someone buys a smartphone (e51 for example) only for having voice/video calls or by using the standard applications that comes with it, that, I can tell, that person just throuwed a lot off cash on that phone.
If you search the Internet you will find a lot of usefull applications that are not always signed, so, if you have the unhacked phone, you can not install them...
In conclusion, sell that smartphone and buy a regular phone if you are not capable to use it at it full capabilities.
