Broken phone HELP!

Hi, I have an N80 and just before Christmas I started having some problems. The speaker stopped working followed by the screen. I diagnosed this to be the ribbon and got it replaced at a local phone shop the other week.

The phone now appears to be working fine, without a sim card. When a sim card is in I get the error 'sim card not valid' which I have read is normally due to it being locked however this is the same card I've used in that phone for the last 2 years.

I went back to the shop and was told nothing he has done should affect that and something must be wrong with the software. I tried updating to the latest firmware but can't since the phone requires a working sim to do this.

Does anyway please have any suggestions for how I could fix this? I could just get a new phone now but wanted to wait until the N97 is released 😉

I can't see anything wrong with the hardware. Since I can't update the phone unless it is in an online profile, is there any way I can flash the latest software update onto it?
