Hi, I am soon to be ending my current Orange contract and switching to a new network. Does anyone know the answers to the following?:

1. Do I have to end my current contract before I can get the PAC code and transfer my number?
This is what I have been told, but it seems strange that my previous network will be willing to lose my monthly contract just because I want to take the number. Can't I just carry on with the same contract, just using a newly assigned number.

2. Can I get the N95 unlocked by Orange once the contract ends?

Any help would be much appreciated.

1. The PAC code has a validity of 30 days... so if you are ending your contract you should be able to get it in that time, though I would imaging they wont give it to you because they dont know how fast the next SP will act to port the number to their service. The contract is on a number, so no you cant just carry it on on a new number, you need to create a new contract. (If I understand your question correctly)
2. Yes. Should be free once the contract ends... a cost if the contract hasnt ended.

Thanks for the reply.
So it sounds like I will need to end the contract before I can (a) get the number ported and (b) get the phone unlocked.
Seems a bit strange because ideally I'd like to continue the contract (on a month to month basis) with a new number. So they'd still be getting 40 a month out of me, whereas instead it looks like I'll have to cancel and they'll get nothing.
