Phil Lattimore, over at (usually, but not always) respected tech news harbinger The Register has put together a very fair and objective look at Nokia's first S60 5th Edition phone, the 5800 XpressMusic, coming to much the same conclusions as we did. Great minds, etc?

At least it wasn't given to a certain individual.

I can't wait to get mine, will see if it can tempt me into using touchscreens where all else has failed.

I got to use a friend's XpressMusic for half a day yesterday.

It is a nice phone, and it should make a media oriented person who doesn't do too much typing, really happy.

But it is just that....I feel that I am just clicking soft buttons instead of hardware buttons most of the time.
The true power that comes with being able to interact with an entire screen instead of just two keys - that is not really there for the most part. If you compare it with an SE P1i, or any touchscreen uiq phone, you will know what I mean.
But then I know that this is to be expected given that this is essentially S60. And these are early days too.

I should have added - uiq or a palm with the menu hack installed...
Maybe it's just me....
