Looks like Monopoly: Here & Now - World Edition (catchy name!) may be on its way soon as its game page has appeared on the official N-Gage site, along with a few screenshots. They look, well... like a monopoly board. The crucial question is, will it support online multiplayer?
Read on in the full article.
I really hope this has online multiplayer, otherwise it could be really boring.
I hope it includes a funcion to cheat. Sly removal of 100 notes from the bank is a must in any monopoly game 😉 Also modifying the free parking rules to give out extra cash is good too.
There was a documentary on TV about the UK Great Train Robbery the other week. Apparently the stories were absolutely true, the crooks actually did play Monopoly with real money in their hide-out, because the amount they got far exceeded their expectations (it was the biggest-ever single theft at the time).
But in the end they got caught partly because they took their gloves off to play the game, leaving their fingerprints all over the board. If only they'd had mobile phones, they might have avoided prison.
From the screenshots, it looks like it's based on the standard edition of Monopoly.
I would have thought that the Mega Edition would have been better for mobile phones, being designed for faster games (there are various features designed to make buying properties faster, each colour has 1 extra property but you only need the same number of properties to start building hotels, etc.).
Does anyone know if this is _just_ like the board game, or has other features to make it a bit more interesting? I haven't ever played a digital version.
It's difficult to tell what the gameplay is from the screenshots. The board is definitely a standard one (but with worldwide cities instead of streets from a particular city) but how the game uses the board is unclear.
I would guess it will include modes that shorten the game considerably, because it would be silly to put a full-length game of Monopoly on a mobile phone (though of course you could use savegames if you really wanted to play that long).
Ahaa, the page has been updated and it says "players: 1 - 4, bluetooth mode: none", which can only mean that there IS multiplayer online. Hurrah!
Oh bum, apparently it's not multiplayer online but a "passaround" multiplayer where several people play on one phone.
It's better than nothing, but this is still a MASSIVE missed opportunity for n-gage.
I still have hopes that this game have online multiplayer... but i think it will be pass'n'play game... but i wont be playing this in 2, or even 4 players... imagine 4 people passing a mobile, hand to hand, and the time it takes to play... it sound stupid... tzer2, you have any different source about this game being pass'n'play? oh please god, gimme monopoly with online feature! PLEASE!!!!!!!

Pass around isn't that bad, it could be quite good for families on trains etc, and presumably they would introduce a shorter version of the rules for multiplayer, but it is disappointing that there's no online.

Someone on the official N-Gage blog asked about it, and the reply they got was that the multiplayer is passaround, so that seems pretty clear.
I do hope I'm wrong though! 😊
