Vodafone Nokia N 95 8GB Update Firmware

11 replies · 5,399 views · Started 23 January 2009

i currently have a vodafone nokia n 95 8gb phone..firmware is V 11.0.026

by the way my product code is 0557135 and from nokia europe it says latest update available is 20.0.016

i have already downloaded NSS and i wish to know if i must change the product code .. if ever i need to , please tell me which product code i must use in order to install the latest firmware.

when i use NSU (without changing the product code) it says V 20 is available..it downloaded the 100 mb file fine but the update failed.

in a recent thread i read, i saw a list of product code to use..which one must i use.? thx 😊

thank you very much for you help.

should i change my product code in order to update to firmware v20? thx 😊

You are correct when you say that the latest firmware for your product code is version 20. See here:-

I do not therefore understand why you should not be able to download and install this V20 firmware on your phone. Bear in mind that you should not worry if you get a blank or white screen or Nokia Test Mode or a notification that the phone has been disconnected. This is normal.

The latest firmware for the N95 8Gb is V31.
If you choose to change your product code to a generic one you may void your warranty but will get the latest firmware.

If you are living in the UK and want the generic code you would use EURO1 = 0549487
This would give you V31 firmware.
Alternatively you could change the product code from Vodafone Europe to Vodafone UK which would give you V30 firmware I believe.

Hope this helps.

unfortunately im no longer living in u.k..but the phone is from u.k though.

do you recommend me to change the product code to euro 1 even if im not in u.k
?

warranty is over for this phone a'way.

i downloaded the required 100 mb needed..then afterwards NSU says 15 mins left to update the phone..clock ticking and then it says failed.

thank you very much for your kind help!

The product code you quoted for your phone (0557135) is Vodafone UK and therefore if you updated this product code you would end up with Vodafone plastered all over it.

I find it strange that you cannot update the firmware on this product code.

I would, as you say it's out of warranty (bear in mind that Nokia handsets usually have a 2 year warranty) be inclined to debrand it and try updating it that way as V11 is very old and a lot of features/improvements have been added since.

If your first language is English then Euro code 1 would be OK as this is a generic code (no operator branding) and refers to the language packs that come with the firmware.

By debranding you may well find that you can update the firmware.

However, be aware that your phone is a European model and therefore in some countries, i.e. US, may not be entirely compatible with the local networks in respect of 3G.

thank you very much for your reply..

i will try to change the product code to EURO 1 then and then ill update it via NSU..

if ever im able to update the firmware with the vodafone uk product code, do you recommend it? thx 😊

i am currently in Africa & 3G works fine for the moment..should i change the product code region wise or is it ok with euro 1 which would be 0549487 - EURO1?

btw phone's firmware is V 11.0.026 RM-320 (Nokia N95 60.01)

wat does the 60.01 means? thx

If you are going to use the phone in Africa (probably not with Vodafone) I wouldn't recommend keeping and updating the firmware as there will be features on it that are Vodafone specific.
As you say you are in Africa then maybe you should consider the 0550378 - EURO3 code which supports English, Portuguese, German, Italian, French I believe. The choice is yours.

thx loads..in the end i will have to change the product code then and update from the new product code..

no i wont be using the phone under vodafone phone charges. well what is the difference between EURO 3 & EURO 1?

as long as there is english its fine. cuz i wont be using the phone in another language in any way 😊 lol

if the phone works well after updating, its fine for me..

if ever the phone doesn't work after i updated the firmware, what should i do? just asking as precaution thx

The difference between Euro 1 and Euro 2 are the language packs that come with the firmware. Both have have English.

By following the instructions carefully that are referred to in my previous postings to you then you should have no problems.
My only nagging doubt is that at present, you seem unable to update your existing version 11 firmware using Nokia Software Updater.

If you have any problems, then just post them here.

Good luck!

i changed the product code to EURO 3 and when i plug my phone with NSU..it says firmware available is v30..this show that so far everything is ok..

aftewards i downloaded..around 100 mb..after finishing download..it says updating the phone..and 15 minutes left..

arriving upon the 13 minutes mark...it says update failed..it offers me to try again or cancel..i tried again and again it says updating the phone and then failed,..,i disable firewall completely but alas same result..

i will update the firmware using product code euro 3

ok i will follw your steps and reinstall pc suite and shutting down firewall anti virus etc..

thank you

i will let u know wat happened
